Cougar Town's much-anticipated Season 3 premiere saw Grayson (Josh Hopkins) pop the question to Courteney Cox's Jules in spectacular, toilet paper-covered fashion. How did the engagement compare to some of our other favorites? Click ahead to check out some of TV's best proposals.

Monica and Chandler (Courteney Cox and Matthew Perry), Friends After his plan to throw Monica off the trail by pretending that he never wants to marry — since, you know, that's just a way for the government to keep tabs on you — was thwarted by Richard (Tom Selleck), Chandler thinks she has left him for The 'Stache. But when Chandler walks into their apartment, he sees the shock of his life: Monica standing in a romantic, candlelit room. "You wanted it to be a surprise," she says, before getting down on her knees and breaking down. ("There's a reason why girls don't do this!" she says.) Chandler then gets on bended knee and finally, tearfully pops the question. Fun Fact: This episode, the Season 6 finale, was nearly the series finale because the stars' contract negotiations came down to the 11th hour.

Michael made it rain, literally, when he filled the room where he and Holly met with candles and accidentally set off the sprinklers. However, Michael, who had years of messing up and ruining big moments under his belt, didn't let the water deter him. He knelt down and asked Holly, in Yoda-speak, to marry him. She gives him the only worthy response: "Your be charming wife me will I." Meant to be much?

Derek and Meredith (Patrick Dempsey and Ellen Pompeo), Grey's Anatomy Seattle Grace's legendary make-out elevator became the setting of Derek's proposal to Meredith. He lined the walls with CT scans of all the patients they had saved together, and told her that being "dark and twisty" is not a flaw, but a strength that makes her who she is. It's a classic McDreamy moment that was five seasons in the making — and one that culminated in TV's first (only?) Post-It wedding.

Charlotte and Harry (Kristen Davis and Evan Handler), Sex and the City Charlotte's first engagement (and marriage) didn't go as she had hoped, but the second time was the charm. Weeks after Charlotte and Harry broke up because of Charlotte's obsession with marriage, she spotted her ex at a Jewish singles mixer. She apologized to Harry and begged him to ask her out again — but he tells her that's not good enough and gets down on one knee to ask for her hand in marriage. It's pretty much the best make-up ever.

In "I Married Marge," a flashback episode brought on by Marge's fear that she might be pregnant again, Homer tells Bart, Lisa and Maggie about how he married their mother. In 1980, Homer is working at a miniature golf course when Marge tells him she might be pregnant. Homer decides to make an honest woman out of Marge by proposing with the only ring he can afford — an onion ring. Despite the hot grease, Marge accepts Homer's proposal, reminding us all once again that money can't buy love.

Niles and Daphne (David Hyde Pierce and Jane Leeves), Frasier With his heart set on the perfect proposal, Niles pulls out all the stops to make it a night to remember for Daphne, hiring musicians, dwarves dressed as Cupid and even Wolfgang Puck to whip up dinner. When Daphne arrives home with the flu, Niles decides to postpone the proposal, forcing Frasier to comically sneak everyone out without Daphne seeing them. Ultimately, Niles realizes that he doesn't need an elaborate set-up to make the night special and simply proposes — just as Frasier tackles the last trumpet player on the stairwell.

It may not have worked out, but, boy, what a cliff-hanger! At the end of the NBC workplace comedy's fourth season, Sam calls an unseen party and pops the question. Was he asking his councilwoman squeeze (Kate Mulgrew) or his hot-and-cold gal Diane? More than 50 million viewers tuned in to the Season 5 premiere to find out. Turns out it was Diane, who, after asking Sam to propose in a more romantic fashion, still turned him down. It's probably for the best: Long left the show later that season to pursue a film career. Guess it just wasn't meant to be!

One of TV's most beloved will-they-or-won't-they couples made it official at the beginning of Season 5. Sure, we all knew it was coming, but the engagement came during one of the couple's most difficult periods, when Pam moved to New York for a summer art program. Jim asks Pam to meet him halfway between New York and Scranton — at a gas station in Fairview — where he finally pops the question in the pouring rain. "I just couldn't wait," he says. Neither could we.

Matt Saracen and Julie Taylor (Zach Gilford and Aimee Teegarden) Friday Night Lights After watching Matt and Julie sweetly, clumsily fumble toward each other in Season 1, viewers were soon after hit with, well, a lot of infuriating road blocks. There was Matt's weird fling with Grandma Saracen's nurse, and Julie's flat-out horrible flings with The Swede and The T.A. Basically, the show owed us — and the once-happy couple — big time. Fortunately, they delivered in the series penultimate episode with an old-school surprise at the Alamo Freeze. Matt dropped down to one knee with his grandma's ring and took Julie's breath away, not to mention ours.

Clark and Lois (Tom Welling and Erica Durance), Smallville, Smallville It took six seasons, but the bickering friends finally evolved into the iconic couple Superman fans know and love. Going against a newly-instated curfew, Clark planned a romantic dinner for the pair. Though Lois tried to change the plans to keep Clark out of trouble, he faked a rescue to draw Lois to their phone booth, where he showered her with rose petals before getting down on one knee and proposing. That's what we call a super proposal!

Will Schuester and Emma, (Matthew Morrison and Jayma Mays)Glee Excusing the fact that Will assigned the serious business of his marriage proposal to his students, what's not to love? Rihanna, retro swimsuits, Artie rolling into the deep end… and Mr Schue, in all-white coat and tails, walking on water, promising himself to Emma. "Life is messy. It just is. And I know that's hard for you. But that's why you have me." Silly and sweet, this is asking for her hand Glee-style!

Luke and Lorelai (Scott Patterson and Lauren Graham), Gilmore Girls TV's favorite mother-daughter duo broke up in a ugly, tear-jerking split that saw Rory try to steal a yacht and drop out of Yale. But just when Lorelai's world was crumbling around her, she reached out for the one person still by her side, Luke. Lorelai asked him point-blank to marry her in the diner. He said yes, but sadly it wouldn't last. Considering these two lovebirds never made it down the aisle before the series ended, at least fans got an engagement to remember.

Everything seemed perfect: Sarah arrived on the moonlit balcony, kissed Chuck and let him say his piece. Too bad she was arrested by the CIA for treason in a sting operation as soon as he pulled out the ring. OK, Take 2: A few episodes later, after the Awesomes welcomed new baby Clara to the family, Chuck and Sarah were sitting in a hallway in the hospital. No words were spoken. As The Naked and Famous' "Young Blood" played in the background, Chuck swept a piece of hair from Sarah's face, rose from his chair, kneeled and presented her the ring. Somehow, a janitor polishing the floor in the foreground as she leaned in to kiss Chuck just made this impromptu moment even more perfect.
