  • Worked as an assistant coach at Saint Joseph's University in 1978-79, at Bishop Kenrick High School from 1979 to '81, and at the University of Virginia from 1981 to '85.
  • Was named head coach of University of Connecticut's women's team in 1985, and had his only losing record in his first season.
  • Became a U.S. citizen in 1994.
  • Was an assistant coach for the 2000 U.S. women's Olympic team, before becoming the head coach in 2009; won Olympic gold medals with the 2000, 2012 and 2016 teams.
