  • Started gymnastics at age 6.
  • In 2010, she moved from Virginia to Iowa, to train with coach Liang Chow and 2008 gold-medalist Shawn Johnson.
  • In March of 2012, got higher all-around scores than World Champion Jordyn Wieber and U.S. teammate Aly Raisman at the American Cup, but as an alternate, her scores did not count.
  • Won a gold medal in the all-around and as part of the U.S. team at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London; her win made her the third American female in a row to win the event at the Olympics.
  • Nicknamed "The Flying Squirrel" by gymnastic coach Martha Karolyi, due to her aerial prowess on the uneven bars.
  • Released her autobiography Grace, Gold, and Glory: My Leap of Faith, in 2012.

  • Took time off from competing after the 2012 Olympics, starting again in 2015.

  • Was part of the team that took home a gold in the women's team final at the 2016 Olympics in Rio, the first time the U.S. team had won back-to-back golds.
