Well, this looks pretty spectacular.

The first teaser trailer for Netflix's The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance has now been revealed, and if any fans of Jim Henson's The Dark Crystal have had concerns about the show's ability to recapture the fantastic essence of the original, they should be satisfied by the sight of this immersive and trippy new take.

The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance is a prequel to the 1982 classic fantasy film, and it honors the original by using all puppetry instead of computer animation. From the teaser above and the photos below, it looks like that throwback approach is paying off, because the series seems to be capturing everything that made the film such a lasting aesthetic delight.

The series returns to the world of Thra for a new adventures, as three Gelfling discover the disturbing truth of the Skeksis' power and embark on a journey of world-changing rebellion. The voice cast list for the show is absolutely stacked with A-listers, too.

Taron Egerton, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Nathalie Emmanuel star as Rian, Brea, and Deet, the three Gelfling heroes at the center of the story. Also portraying Gelfling characters in the series are Caitriona Balfe, Helena Bonham-Carter, Harris Dickinson, Natalie Dormer, Eddie Izzard, Theo James, Toby Jones, Shazad Latif, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Mark Strong, and Alicia Vikander. Meanwhile, the Skeksis & Mystics side of the fight boasts the voice talents of Harvey Fierstein, Mark Hamill, Ralph Ineson, Jason Isaacs, Keegan-Michael Key, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, Simon Pegg, and Andy Samberg.

This is going to be a whole lot of fun for anyone who still feels a tinge of nostalgia for the original.

The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance arrives Friday, August 30 on Netflix.
