The Chi Renewed for Season 2 with a New Showrunner

Showing major confidence in the new series after airing just four episodes thus far, Showtime has renewed the critically-acclaimed drama for a second season. Season 2 will see a bit of a shakeup with Empire and Hannibal executive producer Ayanna Floyd Davis taking over for Waithe and Elwood Reid as the drama's new showrunner.

The story centers on a group of interconnected characters including Kevin (Alex Hibbert), a pre-teen forced to grow up too quickly; Jada (Yolanda Ross), a working mom whose life will soon become more complicated; and Emmett (Jacob Latimore), her sneaker-obsessed son who is about to become a teen dad.

The series has resonated with fans and critics alike who've lauded The Chi for its refreshing and nuanced take on the lives of African Americans living in Chicago's often violent South Side region.

The Chi airs Sundays at 10/9c on Showtime.
