The New York-iest show on television just got New York-ier. Bernadette Peters has been cast in The CW's upcoming Riverdale spin-off, Katy Keene, as an elegant con artist, Deadline reports.

The Broadway star joins the Riverdale Cinematic Universe's intricate web of Hot Parents as "Ms. Freesia," who serves as a maternal figure to one of Katy's (Lucy Hale) friends, Pepper Smith (Julia Chan). Per Deadline, Ms. Freesia is "a wealthy Upper East sider who secured her luxurious lifestyle through cunning means and is actively forming Pepper in her fabulous image." Acting as Pepper's "eccentrically elegant surrogate mother and mentor," she "taught Pepper in the art of the con."

Katy Keene follows four young aspiring artists trying to make it in New York City. Lucy Hale stars as wannabe fashion designer Katy Keene, who's trying to live her best Carrie Bradshaw life while working as a personal shopper. Pepper is her "It Girl" friend who offers her a link to "the red-velvet-rope crowd."
