Gwyneth Paltrow Fully Forgot She Was in Spider-Man: Homecoming

Give her another Oscar right now

A fun fact about Spider-Man: Homecomingis that Gwyneth Paltrow is fourth-billed in the credits despite only appearing in one scene toward the film's end. Paltrow is even credited above the film's female lead, Zendaya, for what amounted to a cameo. (Agents and negotiations, right?) Not that her appearance as Pepper Potts stuck to the actress' ribs. In a now-viral clip from Netflix's new Jon Favreau series The Chef Show, Paltrow is flat-out stunned to learn she co-starred in Tom Holland's Spider-Man film.

As Favreau explained that the origins of what would become The Chef Show started on the set of Spider-Man: Homecoming, which also co-starred the actor and filmmaker, Paltrow interrupted. "Spider-Man?" she asked, unclear why that would hold any bearing on her life. After being told that she and Favreau appeared in the film together, the Oscar-winning star added, "We weren't in Spider-Man. ... No, I was in Avengers." Finally, after a brief back and forth, Paltrow realized the truth. "That was Spider-Man?" she said. "Oh my God."

It's here where we're obligated to note that Marvel often doesn't explain to actors the context around their scenes. Take Brie Larson, who shot her Captain Marvel post-credits scene without knowing it would wind up in Captain Marvel. "I didn't know that was a tag for Captain Marvel," she told Jimmy Fallon earlier this year. "I didn't know what that was what we were shooting. There was also nobody else there. I was by myself on a green screen."

The Chef Show, which also features appearances from Tom Holland and Robert Downey Jr., is streaming on Netflix now.
