Game of Thrones, Westworld, SNL and The Handmaid's Tale lead the pack

The 70th Primetime Emmy Awards are upon us, and there are still a few contentious races. Defending Outstanding Drama Series winner The Handmaid's Taletook home three Creative Arts Emmys last weekend and heads into the ceremony with nods for reigning Best Actress winner Elisabeth Moss as well as four of her co-stars. But The Handmaid's Tale faces stiff competition from HBO's Game of Thrones, which is returning to contention after missing the eligibility window last year and which led all nominees with 22 nominations.

Emmys Predictions: Who Will Win Best Actor in a Drama?

On the comedy side, Saturday Night Live holds strong with 21 nominations, including nods for last year's supporting winners Kate McKinnon and Alec Baldwin and the first-ever acting nomination for Kenan Thompson, who has been on the show since 2003. However, the main focus will be on whether the Academy prefers the populous choice in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel or critical favorite Atlanta for the series prize. Stars Rachel Brosnahan and Donald Glover are favored to win in their respective Lead Actress and Lead Actor categories, but it's still a toss up on which show bowled over the most voters.

Emmys Predictions: Who Will Win Best Actress in a Drama?

This could also be a historic evening. Killing Eve's Sandra Oh, who is Korean-Canadian, is the first woman of Asian descent to be nominated for lead actress in a drama. Glover could also make another breakthrough if he wins Lead Actor in a Comedy Series again or another Outstanding Achievement in Directing for a Comedy Series trophy. If Atlanta or The Americans win their respective series races, it would be the first scripted non-limited series win for FX, which is expected to clean up once again in the Limited Series category thanks to Ryan Murphy's The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story.
