Versace's Darren Criss Wins the Emmy for Best Actor in a Limited Series
The win was well deserved
Darren Criss took home the statue for Best Actor in a Limited Series for his turn in The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Storyat the 70th Primetime Emmy Awards on Monday.
His win wasn't much of a surprise for Emmys fortune tellers. Although Benedict Cumberbatch was many experts' pick for his role as the titular lead in Showtime's Patrick Melrose, Criss' transformation into Versace's killer Andrew Cunanan was a career-defining performance.
This marks Criss' first Emmys win and second nomination. He was previously nominated for an Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics Emmy for the song "This Time" from Glee, which was also created by Versace creator Ryan Murphy.

Criss ended his speech by thanking his fiancée Mia Swier, saying "You roll the windows down and pump the music up in my life."
In addition to Cumberbatch, Criss beat out beat out Jeff Daniels for The Looming Tower, Antonio Banderas for Genius, John Legend for Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concertand Jesse Plemons for the Black Mirrorepisode "USS Callister."
