John Legend Promises His Emmy Won't Bump Chrissy Teigen's Spike TV Award Off Their Shelf

...But it will take up the most space

What's the one thing a power couple like Chrissy Teigen and John Legend have to fight over? Shelf space for their veritable treasure trove of awards, obviously!

After Legend was nominated for two Primetime Emmys (acting and producing) for Jesus Christ Superstar, Teigen joked on Twitter that her beloved Spike TV Award might find itself bumped off the mantle to make room for some of his shiny new statues. "If he wins, he will complete his EGOT and my spike tv award will probably be moved. But it's ok I AM SO PROUD!" Teigen wrote.

That's a pretty high class problem, but Legend says there's no need for an in-house competition when it comes to trophies.

"No, no! It doesn't have to happen like that; we've got plenty of room on the awards shelf and plenty of room around the house. We'll make sure all the awards are well represented," he told TV Guide after getting in a good laugh at his wife's tweet. "Though I do think the Emmy might take up the most space among the major academy awards. Hopefully we'll get a chance to do a test."

It sounds like they've got it covered, but anxiety over shelf space wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility for Legend considering an Emmy would complete his EGOT, the coveted honor bestowed on those who have won all four of the most prestigious entertainment awards: Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony.

That elusive "E" is all that stands between Legend and a completed acronym, which he's well aware of.

"Oh yeah, it has to [be on my mind] because every interviewer has asked me about it [laughs]. It's something I never envisioned 15 years ago, before my first album came out," Legend said. "I was just hoping I would win some Grammys possibly and have a long career in music. Being able to work primarily as a musician in other genres and be recognized by the other Academies has been exciting. I just never envisioned this would be the case when I started in my career, but now that we're on the verge of it happening, it's really exciting. You can never assume that it's going to happen just because you get nominated, but even being this close is exciting."

Best Celeb Twitter Reactions to the 2018 Emmy Nominations

We'll find out in September whether Legend will join the EGOT ranks, but until then he's not stressing about it, win or lose. In fact, he was so chill about this award that he totally forgot the nominations were even coming in today.

"I was actually working out in the gym," Legend said. "I had written down in my calendar that the nominations were this morning, but when I was at the gym I forgot all about it and wasn't even thinking about the fact that they were this morning.... I was listening to music from some of my recording sessions for the last couple days and for some reason the music cut off, and I realized it was a phone call coming through. So my phone was like, 'Hey, you can't listen to music anymore, you got a phone call coming through.' It was my publicist Amanda calling me to give me the big news... Then after I got the news I went back and did some more shoulder presses."

EGOT, schm-EGOT, focus on those killer lats, John!

The 70th Primetime Emmy Awards will air Monday, Sept. 17 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on NBC.
