A New Dune TV Series Is in the Works

There's already a Dune movie reboot in the works, and now there'll also be a Dune television series. Dune: The Sisterhood has been ordered straight to series at WarnerMedia and will work as a companion series for the movie. Hey, the more Dune, the merrier.

According to Variety, Dune: The Sisterhood is told through "the eyes of a mysterious order of women known as the Bene Gesserit. Given extraordinary abilities by their mastery of the body and the mind, the Bene Gesserit expertly weave through the feudal politics and intrigue of The Imperium, pursuing plans of their own that will ultimately lead them to the enigmatic planet Arrakis, known to its inhabitants as Dune." The Bene Gesserit play a major role Frank Herbert's Dune novels, which means there likely will be plenty of crossovers between the film and TV series, and possibly the Dune comic books and video games.

Reinforcing this new entertainment universe even more, the Dune reboot's director, Denis Villeneuve, is set to executive-produce, co-write, and direct the pilot, which will be written by Dune reboot co-writer Jon Spaihts.

The show will be released on WarnerMedia's upcoming streaming service (Warners is also behind the movie, naturally), which doesn't have an official name or release date yet but is expected to release at some point before the end of 2019. As for the Dune movie, that will hit theaters on Nov. 20, 2020.
