The Downton Abbey Movie Is Staging a Harry Potter Reunion

Everyone knows there are approximately 12 actors in total in all of the U.K., which is why it's not super surprising that the highly anticipated Downton Abbey movie will also feature a Harry Potter reunion.

Focus Features announced Thursday that Imelda Staunton, who played the awful Dolores Umbridge in the Potter films (and is married to Jim Carter, who plays Mr. Carson) has officially joined the cast of the film. Fans of both works can only hope that Staunton's character will have the opportunity to run into Violet Crawley (Dame Maggie Smith), so we can all relive the fierce rivalry the two shared in their previous on-screen incarnations.

Staunton will be joined by other new cast members Geraldine James, Simon Jones, David Haig, Tuppence Middleton, Kate Phillips and Stephen Campbell Moore. The reunion movie was given the green light earlier this summer, with Smith, Michelle Dockery, Hugh Bonneville and the rest of the principal cast set to reprise their roles.

The Downton Abbey Movie Is Really Happening

"There's an appetite for it with all the fans. There's definitely an appetite for it," Phyllis Logan, who played the beloved housekeeper Mrs. Hughes, told TV Guide earlier this year of the film. "I think if it was approached and dealt with in the right way, it could be really good."
