What We (Think We) Know About the New Green Arrow After That Major Reveal

Time to consult the comic books!

We finally know who's been putting on the new bow and arrow act in Star City on Arrow, and it's about 10 times as confusing as we expected it to be. The first few shots of this week's episode revealed that a woman with an insane workout regimen was underneath that green hood, which wasn't totally surprising since we'd already speculated the New Green Arrow was woman. Beyond that though, it was still unclear who this woman was or why she'd shown up in Star City with a list of names just like Oliver (Stephen Amell) did seven years ago. The final shot of the episode solved that mystery for us.

Kneeling beside Robert Queen's (James Sheridan) grave behind the burned husk of the Queen mansion, the woman revealed Robert was actually her father, making her Oliver's half-sister. Yep, he's got another one! On an entirely separate note, Moira (Susanna Thompson) and Robert Queen's marriage must have really been on the rocks for each of them to secretly have a child with another person.

So, who the heck is this chick anyways? Well, the original Green Arrow comics might have the answer.

In the comics, Oliver has a half-sister named Emiko Queen who was the daughter of Robert Queen and Shado (Celina Jade). Emiko wasn't actually raised by her parents though, since she was kidnapped by Robert's protege-turned-enemy Komodo, who raised her to believe he was her father. He trained her in hand-to-hand combat and archery, and she later became a partner to the Green Arrow. It's unclear whether this origin story featuring Shado and Komodo will factor into Emiko's story in Arrow's version of events, especially since we've already seen both characters in earlier seasons.

Whatever the case, it's hard not to wonder how Oliver is going to take this news when he finally learns the New Green Arrow's identity. One one hand, you'd think he'd be shocked and upset by this huge revelation, but you have to remember that he already found out Thea (Willa Holland) was his half-sister instead of full sister and that he has a son he never knew about. In terms of secret family shockers, a long-lost sister from Robert's past might not even register on the spectrum of surprise anymore. On the other hand, a half-sister that's stealing his gig as the Green Arrow? That might be trouble.

Arrow airs Mondays at 8/7c on The CW.
