Ryan Murphy has revealed some thrilling new details about the upcoming eighth season of American Horror Story.

Fans probably already knew that Evan Peters would be returning for the show, but Murphy revealed during a promotional event on Friday (via Deadline) that a very special guest will be joining the series to portray his characters' grandmother: Joan Collins.

Collins' attachment to the new season was first revealed last week by the showrunner, but at the time it wasn't clear who she'd play. Murphy also revealed that Peters will be portraying a hair stylist with a sense of humor, which Peters decided to follow up on with a tongue-in-cheek glimpse.

Murphy said that he chose a more light-humored role Peters after his grueling work in American Horror Story: Cult. He reportedly told the crowd, and Peters himself, "The funny thing is, we shot Cult and it was very taxing on Evan, and around Thanksgiving, I was talking to Evan and he said, 'You know this show is so hard, it's so difficult to do'. So your part this year is a comedic part, you are comedic and you play a hairstylist."

Also in talks for the new season is Anjelica Huston, who may join for an as-yet-unspecified role.

Murphy said that the setting of the new season take place 18 months from now -- which is around October, 2019 -- and hinted that it's "not necessarily as real and grounded as the past season," adding, "We're sort of getting back to Asylum and Coven. That's the tone of it."

As for what the subject of the show may be, Murphy didn't say. We'd guess it might have something to do with Halloween, but that seems like more of a Murder House vibe.

AHS's eighth season is expected to start filming in June.
