It's a cruel, cruel summer indeed

It's still gonna be a cruel, cruel summer when9-1-1 returns this fall.

The trailer for 9-1-1 Season 3 has debuted, and it looks like one sunny day at the Santa Monica Pier is going to turn into terror for a lot of folks when a massive tidal wave takes them all by surprise. No doubt this natural disaster will leave a lot of people in need of help from first responders, but the ones we're made to care about right away here include a selfie-snapping couple, a wobbly skateboarder, a mother and her daughter, a pair who are probably going to get stuck on top of the ferris wheel, and a man and his little boy who try to take cover in a carnival booth. The latter is shown clinging to a pole for dear life amid the rushing water and wreckage, so we can probably expect this incident to be just as intense as anything we've seen in Fox's unnerving action series.

Fox Fall 2019 Premiere Dates Finally Revealed

Above all of this chaos is a bit of voiceover from Athena (Angela Bassett) that helps frame what's in store, as she warns, "An emergency is the absence of choice, the randomness of the world, the crazy chaos of life, robbing us of our safety. So, when the storms rage, we call out to the light up ahead."

9-1-1 Season 3 premieres Monday, Sept. 23 at 8/7c on Fox.
