A weekly trip back in time to a significant event (via news clips, interviews and reenactments), this was ABC's inexpensive counterprogramming answer to NBC's powerhouse Thursday-night lineup, which included `The Cosby Show.' It may not have drawn as many viewers as the Huxtable family, but the documentary series was smartly mounted and its small group of loyal fans organized a write-in campaign to keep it on the air. Host Linda Ellerbee won an Emmy for writing.
