VIDEO: ATWT's Cady McClain Previews Rosanna's Oakdale Return

Cady McClain

As the World Turns' Rosanna will really make her presence known this week when she resurfaces in Oakdale, raising a few eyebrows and wrinkling a few people's plans along the way.

Daytime vet Cady McClain — who frankly has not aged a day since I first interviewed her [coughcough] years ago — came by the TVGuide.com offices to talk up her CBS soap heroine's can't-miss homecoming.

Among the topics covered in this video Q&A:

• Who in Oakdale will be most happy to see Rosanna? And who will be rather "irked" by her return?

• Why Rosanna's dynamic with a certain Oakdale hunk is "like wrestling a big, fat seal!"

• What is Ro's take on the Carly-Craig romance? "She's like, 'Oh, no, wrong guy! Been there, done that, don't do it!'"

• For McClain, what has been "the most interesting thing" about reprising the role of Rosanna?

GLAAD Award Nods Acknowledge Both the Surreal and Real

Nelsan Ellis (True Blood), Ken Marino (Reaper) and Sean Penn (Milk)

Nominations for the 20th annual GLAAD Media Awards were announced on Tuesday, and Gus Van Sant's Milk — which chronicles the life of gay-rights crusader Harvey Milk (played by Sean Penn) — will vie for Outstanding Film honors. Joining the Oscar-nommed biopic in that race are Brideshead Revisited, Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist, RocknRolla and Woody Allen's Vicky Cristina Barcelona.

Among the TV contenders, ABC leads the pack with six total nods, though Grey's Anatomy and its revolving door of gay/bi-curious femmes is nowhere to be seen. Instead, the Outstanding Drama race pits Brothers & Sisters against ... read more

ATWT Deems Luke and Noah's First-Time Sex "a Natural Progression"

Jake Silbermann and Van Hansis, As the World Turns

Well more than a year after As the World Turns' Noah and Luke shared the first gay male kiss in the history of American soap operas, they crossed another romantic threshold. They had sex.

At one point during the characters' courtship, a fan campaign was organized to drum up the frequency ... read more

Exclusive: World Now Turns for GH Alum Jon Lindstrom

Jon Lindstrom

You can't keep a bad man down – but you can give him a handsome new puss. As the World Turns has cast former General Hospital fave Jon Lindstrom as Craig Montgomery, the arch-scoundrel who fled Oakdale last February after attempting murder. The actor's first airdate is Dec. 3.

"Jon is a witty and immensely likable actor even when he's doing unspeakable things – as he did [playing twins Kevin and Ryan] on GH," says ATWT head writer Jean Passanante. "And that pretty much sums up Craig."

The character will return to Oakdale "with a deep desire to reconnect with his family," adds the scribe, "though his first order of business is to get himself off the hook for trying to kill Paul [Roger Howarth]. It's a big problem, but Craig is up for the challenge."

Though Craig, who first appeared in 1982, is one of the great villains in suds history, this marks the fourth recast in three years. Hunt Block was dropped from the role in 2005. His replacement Jeffrey Meeks was fired in 2007 and replaced by the original Craig, Scott Bryce, who in turn got the ax early this year.

Look for an exclusive interview with Lindstrom in TV Guide magazine.

Quick Hits: Bianca's New AMC Lover! An ATWT Exit?

Eden Riegel by Jennifer Gonzelez/ABC; Anthony Herrera courtesy PGP Productions

Bad Timing: The insanely popular Eden Riegel returns to All My Children Oct. 17. Good news for us, bad news for her character, Bianca. Erica's youngest daughter shows up in Pine Valley just as a killer tornado hits. No one knows she's in town until Zach (Thorsten Kaye) finds her body in the rubble. And get this: Binks has a new lover, played by soap great Tamara Braun (ex-Carly, General Hospital)! BTW: If you're not into Riegel's outrageous web series, Imaginary Bitches, on YouTube, you're missing out on the most shameless pleasure ever.Survivor: Oakdale: This week, As the World Turns kills off supervillain James Stenbeck — played by Anthony Herrera — when he takes a flyer off a lighthouse. But is he really most sincerely dead? As veteran ATWT fans know, Stenbeck has come back from the dead many times — even after a fall from an airplane. Herrera's quite the survivor, too. In 1997, he was diagnosed with terminal lymphoma but is still with us thanks to a stem-cell tran... read more

Casting Quickies for World Turns and Restless

Laurence Lau by Steve Fenn/ABC

Lau of Attraction: Former All My Children idol Laurence Lau (who can forget Greg and Jenny?) joins As the World Turns Aug. 18 as Brian Wheatley, who'll run Oakdale's new foundation for sick kids. Cougar alert: Look for granny Lucinda to get the hots for him. Beth in Show: Beth Maitland, the incandescent actress who brought The Young and the Restless its very first acting Emmy (back in 1985), returns to the soap Aug. 13. Her character, Traci Abbott, shows up at a Jabot board meeting where they're choosing the next CEO. Her ex-hubby Brad wants the job but doesn't get it.The Billy Club: Billy Miller, brilliant but way too evil to stay in AMC's Pine Valley as psycho Richie Novak, will be the new Billy Abbott on Y&R. The character's previous portrayers include Ryan Brown and Emmy winner David Tom. — Michael Logan read more

Cyndi Lauper Brings Her "True Colors" to Oakdale

courtesy Cyndi Lauper

Oh, those crazy folks at As the World Turns! For months, they ran scared of anti-gay Christian groups outraged by the romance of Luke (Van Hansis) and Noah (Jake Silbermann) — so scared that the boys went 211 days between kisses! Now, in a wild, what-the-hell reversal, ATWT will throw a gay pride dance party on the July 3 episode, complete with Cyndi Lauper singing her GLBT power anthem "True Colors". Lauper rang us from her current 24-city U.S. tour to tell us about her World turn. — Michael Logan TVGuide.com: Did you know you were stepping into such a controversial story line?Cyndi Lauper: Yeah, but why is true love controversial? Those so-called "Jesus people" are so confused, so disconnected from their hearts. They don’t speak for Jesus. He would be horrified at their beliefs! What CBS has done here is groundbreaking and very courageous. Also smart, because a lot of gay people watch soaps. I'm honored to be a little part of it. TVGuide.com: Luke and... read more

Daytime Emmy Nominations Feeling Very Restless

Jeanne Cooper by Robert Voets, Peter Bergman by Robert Voets, Tracey Bregman by Tony Esparza/CBS

Nominations for the 35th annual Daytime Emmy awards were announced Wednesday, and CBS' daytime lineup has the early lead with 51 total nods — or for comparison purposes 12.75 nominations per soap. ABC netted 27 noms for its three sudsers, while NBC's Days of Our Lives and Passions amassed 10 bids between 'em.Among the noteworthy tallies, The Young and the Restless collected 11 acting nods, including at least one contender in every race, while Days made an atypically strong showing, scoring four acting nominees. Kudoscast host ABC, meanwhile, may want to instead broadcast a test pattern, as All My Children, General Hospital and One Life to Live netted just three acting nods combined. That said, both GH and OLTL are vying in both the outstanding drama series and writing contests. The major races:Lead ActressMaura West (Carly, ATWT)Crystal Chappell (Olivia, GL)Nicole Forester (Cassie, GL)Michelle Stafford (Phyllis, Y&R)Jeanne Cooper (Katherine, Y&R)Lead ActorDavid Canary (A... read more

Noelle Beck Hopes ATWT's Audience Is Patient

Noelle Beck courtesy WireImage.com

Effective May 8, Noelle Beck is the new Lily Snyder on As the World Turns. The actress — most recently of Cashmere Mafia — will replace fan icon Martha Byrne, whose last episode airs April 22. Byrne quit the soap in a volcanic contract dispute, but she's handling the transition like a pro."I received an incredible bouquet of flowers from Martha on my first day of work," Beck tells me. "To have her support makes me feel great. She's one very classy lady." Beck is no stranger to daytime suds — she spent nine years as Trisha on Loving — but the mother of three has lately stuck to recurring roles (the conniving Cilla on Cashmere, Tommy's almost-lover, almost-sister Mariel on Rescue Me)."We had to take a family vote about the ATWT offer," says Beck, who is married to hotshot New York restaurateur Eric Petterson. "Everybody said, ‘Go back to work!' I thought they were going to say, ‘Please, don't work full-time!' I'm such a crazy soccer mom; I think they want... read more
