How Harry Connick Jr. Saved American Idol

Harry Connick Jr.

Season 13 of American Idol sure caught a lucky break in new judge Harry Connick Jr. Since his debut in January, Connick has received rave reviews from both the show's fans and television critics — but he hasn't paid attention to any of them. "There's just a lot of noise that I don't listen to," Connick says. "I've heard some incredibly nice things, but it stops there. I've got a job to do."

That job would be to... read more

The Office Closes Its Doors: Producers and Cast Reflect on American-izing the British Series

The Office

A single-camera, mockumentary-style comedy following the employees of a paper company in Scranton, Pa.? When the American adaptation of the critically beloved British series The Office debuted on NBC in March 2005, it was a far stretch from the network's glossy, multi-camera powerhouses, like Friends and Will & Grace. Nine seasons and countless "that's what she saids" later, the Scranton party will stop on Thursday, May 16 at 9/8c on NBC.

TVGuide.com spoke to stars Rainn Wilson (Dwight Schrute), Jenna Fischer (Pam Beesly-Halpert), Angela Kinsey (Angela Martin), Oscar Nunez (Oscar Martinez), Kate Flannery (Meredith Palmer), Ellie Kemper (Erin Hannon), Jake Lacy (Pete Campbell), producer and director Ken Kwapis, and executive producers Greg Daniels, Ben Silverman and Mike Schur about The Office's long, strange trip from British underground hit to America's favorite workplace. This is the first in a... read more

Premise: Snappy hit about a straight woman and a gay man who are best friends. She's a decorator with a snippy, self-absorbed assistant; he's a lawyer with a flamboyant buddy who has trouble holding a job. The scripts are laced with pop-culture references and in-jokes, but what's best about this sitcom is the cast chemistry. What doesn't always work so well is the too-frequent big-name guests, who have included Michael Douglas, Cher, Madonna and Matt Damon.
