Premise: Don Herbert educated and entertained children with easy-to-replicate science experiments as Mr. Wizard. With the aid of a young assistant, Herbert performed scientific tricks using everyday household items. The program, which premiered on March 3, 1951, as a local show on NBC-TV's Chicago affiliate, won a number of national honors, including a Peabody. `Watch Mr. Wizard' was revived briefly in the '70s and in 1983, Herbert developed the faster paced `Mr. Wizard's World' for Nickelodeon.
