Question: With the recent news that Kristen Bell and Rob Thomas discussed a Veronica Mars movie (which would be great, but I'm not holding my breath), my question is do you think this would be a good idea creatively? I mostly agree with your opinion that the Sex and the City and X-Files movies both could have been much better and/or better off not being made. For the record, I am still a huge fan of both shows and couldn't wait to go see both movies when they came out. But those shows were able to tell their story during their TV run and had just about as much closure as one can expect to get from a TV series. But I feel that the fact that Rob Thomas decided to leave things open-ended so it would be "harder" for the network to cancel the show puts VM in a different situation. While I know I should just be happy we got three seasons of Veronica Mars, I can't help wanting to know what happened to Veronica, Keith, Logan, Wallace, etc. And as far as a recent movie based on a short-lived TV ...

Francis Capra by Jean-Paul Aussenard/WireImage.com
Now here's a Heroes newcomer I can get behind if only because it could offer Veronica Mars fans a very special reunion. Francis Capra, aka the toughie 'Ron (and Mars viewers) loved to hate, is joining the NBC hit this fall in the recurring role of Jesse.Who or what is Jesse? Not much (including his power) is being revealed, of course, but thus far I've found out two things: One, TV's former Weevil is playing evil, and two, his villainous storyline will find him crossing paths with Peter Petrelli.Capra's arrival of course promises to reunite him with Veronica herself, Kristen Bell, who is rumored (though not yet confirmed, drat!) to be reprising her own Heroes role this season.Mars fans, are you with me in welcoming Capra back to cool and culty TV? Question: You gave us some scoop on Rob Thomas' 90210 spin-off, now can we get some news on his remake of Cupid? I always thought it was a shame the original was canceled.
Answer: I never actually watched the original, so I'll be viewing this reboot with virgin eyes. And I like what I'm seeing so far: a behind-the-scenes staff that looks virtually identical to the crew Thomas used on Veronica Mars. That can only mean good things.

Criminy, run and buy a lottery ticket, Rob! On Thursday, just hours after news broke about the Veronica Mars creator possibly bringing Beverly Hills, 90210 back to life for the CW, ABC gave a green light to the pilot for Thomas' new version of Cupid, the romantic comedy he gave the tube back in the '90s. Back then, Cupid starred Jeremy Piven as a man who believed it was his mission to help Zeus boost romantically challenged mortals. The update is being pegged as a "reinvention."BecauseCupid has been in development since the fall, the Reporter says, it is in "first position" that is, Thomas' priority should both the comedy and the CW's new-0210 (if penned by him) get picked up.Related: Veronica Mars Boss in Talks to Pen 90210 Spin-off

Question: Any word from Rob Thomas yet? Are we getting a Veronica Mars comic? Or something?
Answer: Just heard from the Mars master and, while there's nothing new to report on the VM front, he does have several potentially kick-ass projects percolating at various stages of development. Among them: his Cupid reboot, and a single-camera comedy he cowrote with Paul Rudd titled Party Down that's generating some very good buzz. Rob is also being courted by several networks to show-run potential pilots for the '08-'09 TV season. "I'm waiting to find out if either of my projects gets ordered before I commit to something else," he tells me. "I should learn the fate of my projects pretty quickly."

Question: Given the problems facing networks with pilot season in doubt, is there any chance that the Veronica Mars FBI concept could be resurrected for Fall 2008? In general, would pilots that weren't picked up be considered for slots as new shows next fall? I know that sounds strange, but I assume that the same people who made errors in picking up shows that bombed are equally capable of having made the error of passing on shows that could have worked. Or perhaps a pilot was just a year or two ahead of its time in concept or style.
Answer: Wow, you guys don't let any show go easily, do you? It's an interesting idea, networks being so desperate they'd paw through their discard pile of rejected pilot pitches to cobble together a new season. Won't happen. The CW has decided, rightly or wrongly, that Veronica Mars is history, and it's a bit late in the game to resurrect it now. Especially with Kristen Bell, Enrico Colontoni and others associated with the franchise having moved on. If th ...
