The Vampire Diaries Episode Recap: "The Last Day" Season 2, Episode 20

This week's episode of The Vampire Diaries was intense to say the least. Tyler returned, Elena made an important declaration, someone got bit and someone got turned.

Elijah explains the real curse to Stefan, and Damon interrupts asking why they're waiting on killing Klaus. When Elena adds that they can't do it too soon for risk of killing Bonnie, Damon quips, "I'll write her a great eulogy." Elijah also shows off an elixir he has which will resuscitate Elena after Klaus drinks her blood. But Damon won't chance the potion not working and takes matters into his own hands — he force-feeds her his blood so that she'd become a vampire and not die.

Tyler's back, but unfortunately it's to visit his mother in the hospital. Klaus' man-witch had thrown Mrs. Lockwood down the stairs in order to draw Tyler back to Mystic Falls. And of course he didn't travel alone, Jules came too. Outside the hospital the pair runs into Caroline and it's awkward to say the least. Jules leaves to give them some time alone, but it's not before long that man-witch and Greta come and kidnap them. Vampire? Check. Werewolf? Check.

Stefan takes Elena away for the rest of the day to talk about how she feels about the impending possibility of being a vampire. It takes some time, but eventually she admits she doesn't want to be one, and never did.

Damon decides he can only postpone the sacrifice by thwarting the plan so he goes to rescue Caroline from the tomb. He's almost stopped by man-witch before Matt shows up to save the day. Damon grabs Caroline just as she and Tyler are mid heart-to-heart, but she refuses to leave without him. Damon unlocks Tyler from the tomb as well, but with the full moon lurking, Tyler begins his transition. Tyler yells at them to run, but then snaps at Damon before he can stop himself.

After Stefan and Elena's goodbye, Damon finds Klaus to tell him that the sacrifice will wait because he killed his witch. "When you spend 1,000 years trying to break a curse you learn a thing or two. Always have a backup," Klaus says. His backup plan is two-fold. Jules is his werewolf. After Klaus disappears, Katherine apologizes to Damon and says she had to call on "her" to lure her out. Who's the "her?" As Greta is walking Elena into the woods, Jenna is there laying on the ground. She suddenly wakes up as Greta says she's in transition. Yep, Jenna is now a vampire.

The final bomb is dropped when Damon asks Katherine why he couldn't just be the vampire to get sacrificed. Katherine explains that Klaus said he was useless and then grabs his arm. It's a werewolf bite, which is deadly.

Are Damon, Jenna and Jules all headed for death? Weigh in on this week's episode below.
