The Vampire Diaries is finally back from a way-too-long summer hiatus and the premiere was filled with naked Damon, ripper Stefan, supernatural sex and a sad birthday girl. Here are some of the major moments from the start of Season 3.
Bearded Simon Camden- 7th Heaven's (grown-up) David Gallagher guest-starred as Ray Sutton, a werewolf that Klaus and Stefan find in Tennessee. Klaus revealed his plan to have Ray lead them to his wolf pack so that he can breed a bunch of hybrid were-vamps like himself.
Why Stefan is called "The Ripper:" After Damon follows a lead to Stefan's whereabouts, he comes upon a house with two girls dead at the hands, or shall I say mouth, of Stefan. "There's a reason they call him The Ripper," Damon explains to Alaric. "[He] feeds so hard he rips them apart but then when he's done he feels remorse, puts the bodies back together."
Fiery "Forwood:"Talk about sexual tension. Caroline and Tyler have been hanging out together all summer, but when Tyler mentions "I'm horny all the time," it's game on. Caroline is not thrilled that Tyler brings another date to Elena's birthday, and then finally confronts him — and then pulls him in for a kiss. The two wind up at Tyler's where the clothes are ripped off, and the vampire and werewolf get it on.
Jeremy and Matt's bromance: Jeremy is working at the Mystic Grill alongside Matt and admits that he's been seeing "things." Later on at Elena's party, the two get stoned together, and as they're about to leave, Matt hears Jeremy yell out, "Vicki." Jeremy admits she's been appearing, but Matt doesn't believe it. "I know we got our hands full with the supernatural stuff in this town but ... ghosts?" Matt responds. Yes, Matt, because vampires and werewolves are so believable, but ghosts, not so much?
Andie Starr is a goner: Our resident TV anchor has returned, leading to some much appreciated sudsy Damon scenes. Unfortunately, it's at Andie's expense when Stefan uses her to warn Damon to leave him alone.
Hope for Stefan: In one of the final moments of the episode, Stefan calls Elena but doesn't say a word. Hoping it may be her boyfriend on the other side of the line, she tells him, "Stefan, if this is you, you'll be OK. I love you, Stefan. Hold onto that." Stefan simply shakes his head, with tears in his eyes, before hanging up. Tearjerking moment!
Mrs. Lockwood is ready to hunt: Talk about awkward. When Caroline tries to sneak out of Tyler's bedroom, his mom is standing at the bottom of the staircase. Caroline attempts to leave, but as she grabs her purse her hand burns at the touch. Mrs. Lockwood must have put vervain in there, so she'd know for sure if Caroline was a vampire. With that suspicion confirmed, she pulls out her gun and shoots our vampire Barbie to the ground.
