The Vampire Diaries Episode Recap: "Plan B" Season 2, Episode 6

On this week's Vampire Diaries, the quest to take down Katherine was futile once again. The episode began with Stefan and Elena cuddling in bed. Over on the other side of town, Mason and Katherine are rolling around under the sheets as well. It's not long before she asks him about the moonstone. "Don't you trust me?" Katherine asks. Elena, meanwhile, is still giving Stefan his daily dose of blood. Both Katherine and Elena tell their men they love them. There should be a new drinking game for this show with the amount of "I love you's" always thrown out.

At the Salvatore house, Jeremy arrives to tell Damon the news about the moonstone. Alaric soon joins and brings over more research. He says that the curse of the werewolf is sealed with the moonstone. Down in the Salvatore lair, Sheriff Forbes is still waiting for her vervain intake to dissolve. Caroline visits and Mama Forbes dismisses her at first, still in shock that her own daughter is a vampire. But soon, the Sheriff opens up to hearing more about the new lifestyle.

It's time for yet another Mystic Falls function that's got the whole town involved. Seriously, do towns really have this many festivities? When Mason bumps into Bonnie, she sees a vision of him and Elena kissing. The jig is up when Stefan realizes it was actually Katherine. Damon can't understand why Katherine and Mason would be involved and says, "Werewolf aside, the guys a surfer." He asks Bonnie to put a head-spinning spell on Mason and she surprisingly does it. His headache brings him to the ground, and the boys are able to grab him and knock him unconscious.

Back at the house, Mason is chained up and Bonnie is able to see a vision through him of a well. They now know where the moonstone is hidden. Stefan heads to the well with Elena, but when he jumps in, the water is filled with vervain. Elena is helpless as she hears her boyfriend scream out in pain. Caroline comes running and with Bonnie's help, they lower Elena down. They're able to pull Stefan back up, but he's lifeless and covered in his own blood.

It pains me to watch Damon continuously torture Mason. He finally reveals that he got the stone for Katherine so he wouldn't have to turn anymore because she loves him. Damon laughs at the notion. Jeremy, who is also there, asks Damon to stop hurting Mason, but Damon chokes him and says, "Suck it up or leave." Damon returns to the torturing and tells Mason, "I look at you and I see myself — a less dashing, less intelligent version." Then he kills him. Who here doesn't like mean Damon?

Caroline is so excited and spills her day's details to her mom. When the sheriff looks back in disbelief, it's because she's amazed that her daughter has become this strong and confident person. "You don't have to take my memories away. I'll keep your secret," the sheriff pleads. But as much as Caroline doesn't want to compel her, she knows she has to. She cries as she compels her mom.

With Mason dead, Damon takes his phone and dials the last number. It's Katherine. He tells her the news, but Kat reminds them she has a Plan B and Plan C and so on.

At the Gilberts', Jenna gets a call and hands it over to Elena. It's Katherine on the line. "Do you know how easy it was to get in your house?" she asks. Turns out, Katherine has compelled Jenna to be her spy. As Elena holds the phone, she sees Jenna take a knife and stab herself. Luckily, she doesn't die, but Elena now knows Katherine isn't going to stop until she hurts everyone around her. "She's going to pay — Elena. I don't know how, but she's going to pay," Jeremy says. Meanwhile, at the Lockwoods', Tyler's mom says that Mason has headed back to Florida. Poor Tyler looks pretty upset and has no idea that he's not gone temporarily, but forever.

At the end, Elena shows up at Stefan's and cries as she tells him it's over. "It has to be," she says before leaving. Damon apologizes when he sees her on her way out, but she responds, "It doesn't matter, she won. Katherine won."

In the final scene, Katherine is talking to her next target: innocent Matt. With Mason gone, she needs a new werewolf by her side, and the person who can be that for her is Tyler. Katherine compels Matt to go after Tyler until he kills him, which will set the curse off and turn Tyler into a werewolf.

Will you miss Mason? Are you nervous for Matt?
