The Vampire Diaries Episode Recap: "The Sacrifice" Season 2, Episode 10

After a brief hiatus, The Vampire Diaries is back. Yipee. Things are status quo at the Gilbert household: Someone is creeping around her house while she gets up and bumps into her teacher, Alaric, who's dating her aunt, Jenna.

"Well, I'm naked, so I'm going to go," Alaric says awkwardly.

At school, Bonnie is bonding with her new witch-friend Luka, who is showing her how to hone her skills. Together they make the leaves whirl around as they feel the romantic connection between them. Also on the schoolyard is Tyler, who's been keeping to himself since his own discovery. Caroline sees him and asks what his plan is for the upcoming full moon, but he has yet to devise one.

Despite Damon and Stefan's warnings, Elena goes to Rose for information about Klaus. Together they head to Richmond to find Rose's friend Slater — only Slater is dead.

Instead, they come across his girlfriend Alice, who they coax into getting info for them off of his computer. They're able to find a list of vampires and one to call on to get Klaus' attention. So why does Elena want to find the single most dangerous vampire out there?

Rose realizes that Elena wants to sacrifice herself to him to save those around her. But Rose knows she can't let her do that, and calls on Damon to come to stop her.

Bonnie agrees to help the Salvatores get the moonstone from Katherine by weakening the spell she set around it. But before she gets there Jeremy has taken matters into his own hands by thinking he can weaken Katherine with stakes and powder and get it himself. He's wrong, and Katherine bites into him. The only thing saving him is his ring.

The rest of the group arrives and Bonnie tries to get her spell to work so that they can get Jeremy out of there. But she passes out. In an effort to save Jeremy, Stefan runs in during the spell's momentary weakness, throws Jeremy out, but gets stuck inside with Katherine.

Tyler and Caroline continue to develop a closeness as they discover an old journal of Mason's detailing his transformation. They also find a video with the hours of pain Mason endured on his first full moon. Tyler cries as he sees his own future before him.

"Why are you helping me? Why do you care?" Tyler asks.

"You just seem like you kind of need it," she says telling him she knows what it's like to go through the transformation alone.

The doorbell rings and Caroline opens it up to find Matt outside. He says he misses her and as she reciprocates the feelings, Tyler walks up behind her. Just seeing the two together gives Matt an uneasy feeling.

In Richmond, Elijah shows up after Damon arrives. Elijah just takes a look at her and leaves. Why does he keep her alive?

Damon gets Elena home and tells her how stupid she was for risking her life.

"Everyone tries so hard to save me, you shouldn't question why I try to save all you," she responds.

She soon realizes that Stefan is gone and stuck in the tomb. They better get Bonnie to figure out ASAP how to get him out.

"That right there is the biggest mistake you've ever made," Katherine tells Stefan.

What did you think of this week's episode? Were you hoping Bonnie would let Jeremy kiss her?
