Jacqueline Susann's 1966 novel about the perils of showbiz was the source for this brief drama, which had been made as a (memorably awful) 1967 theatrical movie and remade in 1981 as a TV-movie. In this version, there were few references to drugs ('60s slang for the `dolls') or alcohol, except in the context of recovery.
