Ay, Papi! Season 2, Episode 3

Episode Recap: "Betty's Wait Problem" I didn't think that the gunshot we heard would be directed at Ignacio. Hector, the son of Rosa's first husband (whom Ignacio didn't murder, it turns out) listened to what Ignacio had to say. Loved the comedic twist of Ramiro's vengeance: He missed his wife, yes, but missed his cook's (Ignacio's) flan as well. Looks like Wilhelmina made good on her promise to Betty. But she did keep lying, this time by grooming Alexis to be her new puppet/BFF. With an elaborate photo album replete with photo-shopped images of the twosome partaking in fashion week, marching for gay rights and... square dancing (Marc had to leave his mark), she convinced Alexis of their bosom-buddy relationship and then swooped in for the kill. She told her that Claire left Bradford, and that he was engaged to her. The "tramnesiac" (so said Marc) gave her blessing to move forward with the wedding. Too bad Claire didn't get to Bradford in time at the masked Black and White Ball. But I guess it wouldn't have mattered. As Bradford told her: "Your life is over. It ended the minute you murdered Fey." Ouch! Amanda and Daniel breathed huge sighs of relief that all their canoodling hadn't been incest after all (or half incest, by Amanda's fuzzy math, since they'd be half-siblings). Without "Dadford," Marc suggested she have an "I'm Fey Sommers' daughter" coming-out party at the ball and prepared her for the media frenzy and ensuing swag-filled lifestyle. By the time they rolled out the red carpet, her new manager/agent/publicist (Marc) insisted she needed to "out-Britney Britney" (man, that's hard to do these days) in order to get noticed. So Marc tripped her and stepped on her dress, planting her naked in the middle of paparazzi wearing only a Sommers-esque wig and brandishing a mostly hairless Halston to almost cover her naughty bits. But some deep thoughts sprang from the shallow celebrity stunt: She will still never get to know her real mother. And she's still desperate to find her real father. I love when this show throws two very dissimilar people together to form an unlikely relationship. Justin took up basketball in an attempt to connect with his late dad. But of course he didn't know a thing about the game, as evidenced when Daniel's Harvard b-ball nickname "Dr. Swish" went completely over his head. And on the court, after Daniel so kindly offered to teach him, Justin was, well, Justin - dribbling with two hands and screaming when the ball bounded toward him. In a fit of frustration, Daniel leaped up from his wheelchair to show him how it's done. Even though Daniel was feigning injury to hit on his physical therapist, Justin found him endearing and, even better, found in Daniel a new father figure. Hopefully there's more of that to come. I must address the focus of tonight's episode: Betty and her love life! What do you think of Sandwich Guy? OK, Gio ( Freddy Rodriguez). Sweet first impression, funny second impression (two tablespoons of fatty mayo in every "Mode" sandwich!), rude third impression on the ride to Jersey and obnoxious fourth impression while Betty prepped for the ball. But Betty's got a thick skin, and with his "quacks" and her "woofs" (only in the context of this show would that be humorous), she was inspired to get back on track with her writing and career dreams, at the very least to update her journal. (Lance Bass has been out for ages, after all.) Although Betty wasted a day scouring the tri-state area for a wheelchair/iBot/Segway contraption for Daniel's scheme, they made up the next day, and she'll continue to assist him on the condition that she be allowed to take a writing class over lunch. As for her and Henry, their future hinges on a paternity test, which involves waiting until Charlie is 14 weeks pregnant. Meanwhile, Betty shrugged off Henry's lunch date for her writing class, with custom sandwich from Gio in hand.... This should get interesting.
