Keshia Knight Pulliam
Keshia Knight Pulliam wants you to know: She's not Rudy Huxtable anymore.
The 30-year-old actress may forever be remembered for her adorable character on The Cosby Show, but the work she's churning out now is a far cry from days past. In Tyler Perry's Madea Goes to Jail (now on DVD), Pulliam plays Candie, a young woman whose choices land her in the slammer.

"She's a girl who's made some bad decisions," Pulliam tells TVGuide.com. "Due to some unfortunate circumstances, she dropped out [of college] and that's where her life took a downward spiral. She got into drug abuse and prostitution, and it's just a story about choices — and how you rebound from those choices."
That story resonated with moviegoers who poured into theaters to make the film Perry's biggest box-office success to date. Pulliam first worked ...

Networks' spring presentations to advertisers are scripted affairs. At TNT and TBS' announcements last week, known as "upfronts," stars major and minor walked onstage in a hall filled with advertising executives to deliver carefully worded talks about their shows. Almost all read from prompters.
Until Tyler Perry took the stage.
The playwright, filmmaker and actor spoke with no notes about his two series on TBS: House of Payne and Meet the Browns.

Marlene Forte
Marlene Forte says she feels like "Alice in Wonderland" after getting some time in the spotlight on Tyler Perry's House of Payne.
Forte's made a name for herself as a talented character actor, playing cops and victims on shows like Lost, CSI, Cold Case and ER. Now, she's changing to comedy by entering the Atlanta-based world of the Payne family. Forte's also excited about representing the Latino community with the introduction of the Hernandez clan to the TBS sitcom.
"I've played lots of moms in my career, but they're always weepy or crying over their dead husbands... but, [my character is] witty, smart and nothing really rattles her. She's the boss. Really just like every Latin wife."
Forte plays Rosie Hernandez, a police officer's wife and mother of three who befriends the show's matriarch, Ella Payne (Cassi Davis). Because both of their kids are older or have already left the nest, Rosie and Ella will get into all kinds of trouble together...

Tyler Perry began as a humble playwright, but thanks to his insane work ethic, seemingly never-ending creative inspiration and knowing people in the right places (Oprah!), he's catapulted himself to mega-producer in both film and television. Erin Fox sat down with Perry to discuss his writing process, his new movie The Family That Preys and why he wanted to tackle television with The House of Payne. He definitely left us wondering, does he ever sleep?

Question: I have a sneaking suspicion that the jump into the future on Desperate Housewives will turn out to be very successful for the show, because it enables the writers to focus on a new "mystery arc" without bringing in a bunch of new characters we don't care about. I'd be willing to bet good money that one of the main stories of the upcoming season will be about why Susan and Mike are broken up, followed by their finding their way back to each other (which would mean Gale Harold's character will turn out to be a bad guy: Quelle surprise). Season 2 was widely seen as a failure, largely because what had been envisioned as the Big Storyline centered on people we'd never heard of and were given no time to develop an interest in. Dana Delany's story was more successful, but now Marc Cherry doesn't have to worry about finding a bunch of new characters. The five-year gap will probably be able to fuel the storylines for a couple of seasons, maybe even until the show ends its run. On ...

Tyler Perry's House of Payne by Andrew Eccles/TBS
TBS' half of Turner's Wednesday upfronts presentation kicked off with renewal news for Tyler Perry's House of Payne (returning in June) and 10 Items or Less. The laugh-centric cabler then announced a development slate featuring: National Banana Already in Progress, a late-night sketch show exec-produced by Jerry Zucker (Airplane!). A scripted comedy produced by Def Jam's Russell Simmons and starring Run DMC's "Run." A half-hour laffer exec-produced by and starring William H. Macy. A late-night reality series which returns middle-aged men to their frat boy days. (And you thought all it took was a case of Pabst.) An improv show exec-produced by Jamie Foxx. Top Ten, which claims to "pit comedians against each other."Bookmark our FALL TV GRID | Review All of Our FALL TV NEWS

Question: While watching reruns of Seinfeld on TBS, I caught a promo for Tyler Perry's House of Payne that called the show "the No. 1 comedy of all time." Obviously nothing is farther from the truth, and to run this commercial during, in my opinion, the actual No. 1 comedy of all time was even more insulting. What constitutues a valid promotion for a show? Are television stations allowed to say virtually whatever they want to attract an audience, no matter how false the information they present actually is?
Answer: Who's going to sue them? Promos are all about hyperbole, and for all I know, TBS meant House of Payne was the No. 1 cable comedy, which might actually be true. (Its numbers are freakishly strong considering the appalling ineptitude of the show itself.) Networks often crunch their numbers selectively when making such outrageous claims in their promos. One network is No. 1 in total viewers, another is No. 1 in demos, and so on. It's all just so much white noise to me ...
