True Blood Episode Recap: "Burning Down the House" Season 4, Episode 10

Sunday's episode of True Blood appeared to set up the final showdown of Season 4. With only two episodes to go, Antonia and Marnie refined their alliance, Tara and Holly discovered new powers, Eric regained his Eric-ness, Jason had second thoughts about Jessica, Tommy and Sam finally said goodbye, Terry staged an intervention for Andy and the vampires reasserted their dominance ... and they looked sexy doing it.

Eric's back.
In a last-ditch effort to prevent Eric from killing Bill, Sookie did her Ghostbusters impression and broke Marnie's curse. So Surly Eric is back, but — what's this? — he still loves Sookie. Complicated!

Andy and Terry are related.
I always forget that these two are related. (I was really confused when Arlene and Terry moved into Andy's mother's house.) But it's starting to make more sense, now that the cousins spent much of the episode narrating the Bellefleur clan backstory. (Show, don't tell, writers!)

Tommy's dead.
Do you think this is how the writers planned for Tommy's arc to go? I don't think so. Poor Marshall Allman; they never quite figured out what to do with him. As a viewer, his stories never came together for me in any cohesive or plausible way. So while I totally didn't buy Sam's "You're my heart; you're my brother" routine, I'm sad to see True Blood's Cousin Oliver go to that giant pet shop in the sky.

Jason's guilty.
For all his simplemindedness, Jason really is a good guy. Hence, he feels a little guilty about sleeping with his best friend's girlfriend. He rightly points out that he probably wouldn't have done it if he hadn't drank Jessica's blood. But we can all understand why Jessica was a little miffed at his suggestion that she glamour him so he would forget the whole thing.

Marnie's evil.
Hey, guess what? Remember how convenient it was to blame Antonia for all of Marnie's wrongdoings? It turns out that little ol' Marnie been in cahoots with the enigmatic Spaniard the whole time! In fact, she's a little power-hungry now and Antonia might be the voice of reason in this whole cockamamie scenario. Marnie is definitely hunkering down for a battle. Jesus uses his brujo-liness to penetrate Marnie's force field, but a last-minute escape attempt by budding witches Tara and Holly actually ends up trapping Sookie and Lafayette inside it as well. So I guess it's up to Jason to save the day. Uh-oh.

Vampires are badass.
But have no fear. Sexy vampires are here! As if on their way to the monthly meeting of the Quentin Tarantino Appreciation Society, Pam, Bill, Eric and Jessica come bursting out of the back of a van dripping in black leather and packing some serious ordnance. As the screen fades to black, The Used's excellent cover of the Talking Heads' "Burning Down the House" sets the scene for a witch-vampire showdown that will be more fun than one of MaryAnn's backyard smorgasbord/orgies.

What did you think of "Burning Down the House"? Are you ready to rumble?
