Carson Daly Apologizes for Homophobic Joke: "I'm Not That Guy"

Carson Daly

Carson Daly issued an apology Wednesday after making what some deemed to be a homophobic joke on his Los Angeles radio morning show.

The current host of The Voice and ex-TRL emcee was discussing JetBlue pilot Clayton Osbon, who was charged with interfering with the crew after he had a breakdown on a recent flight out of New York. Several men on the flight — who happened to be on their way to a security industry conference in Las Vegas — had to wrestle the pilot to the cabin floor after he began screaming over the radio about religion and pounded aggressively on the locked door of the cockpit midflight.

TRL and The Voice may feel miles apart on the music-show spectrum, but they've both contributed to the socialization of TV. We talked to Daly about his role in shaping TRL, adapting the Dutch formula for The Voice and the role of quality in social success... read more
