Led By The Walking Dead, Cable Ups Its Game Vs. Broadcast This Fall

Andrew Lincoln

The zombie apocalypse has upended the entire TV business. AMC's The Walking Dead is now the No. 1 entertainment series on TV among adults 18-49 — a landmark accomplishment for a cable show, particularly in the fall.

The first three episodes of The Walking Dead's Season 3 have attracted at least 6.5 million viewers in that key advertiser demographic, beating everything else on TV — even mainstream hits like Modern Family and The Big Bang Theory. read more

Matt's Guide to Tuesday Night TV: New and Returning Shows

Dana Delany, Nicholas Bishop

Continuing a weeklong series of new-season analysis and previews, here's my take on how I see the new Tuesday lineups playing out.

Tuesday in a Nutshell: The no-brainer: CBS will continue to rule with its NCIS-NCIS: LA combo, and the new procedural-with-a-twist Unforgettable should fit right in, possibly putting a dent in ABC's midseason surprise Body of Proof, which roughly targets the same audience for female-driven crime dramas. Fox should make significant inroads with the younger demos, especially if Glee gets back its groove in this transitional graduation season (for some characters, anyway). The delightful New Girl deserves to break out, and may bolster the fortunes of my favorite comedy from last season, Raising Hope. On NBC, The Biggest Loser provides stability if not much excitement ... read more

Top Moments: Jon Stewart's Delicious Rant, The Voice's Fatal Kiss and an Uncertain Weiner

The Daily Show, Jon Stewart

Our top moments of the week:

11. Worst Call for Help: On the Real Housewives of New Jersey, Teresa goes over to Jacqueline's house for help writing a letter to Teresa's brother, Joe. Unfortunately, pretty much all of Jacqueline's advice falls on deaf ears, as Teresa tells her, "You really don't know ... it's between me and my brother," and then proceeds to overstay her welcome by a few hours. Don't you have your own McMansion for this sort of thing?

10. Worst Plagiarism:
During Platinum Hit's song hook challenge (its version of a Top Chef quickfire), Nevin whips up a... read more

Matt's Weekend Picks: March 4-6

Kathy Griffin

The Defenders (Friday, 8/7c, CBS)
One week before she begins a limited run on Broadway — and let's hope HBO or somebody records THAT show! — the irrepressible Kathy Griffin goes to Las Vegas in a guest shot on this struggling courtroom drama. She is cast to type as a brash insult comic sued for offending one of her audience victims (What, Joan Rivers was busy?) In the subplot, the son of a hotel owner turns to buddy lawyers Nick and Pete for help after he wakes up to find a casino host strangled in a hot tub. What are the odds he's guilty? ... read more
