The out-of-this-world adventures of 24th-century Space Academy `solar guards' (one of them from Venus) were all over the networks in the early 1950s. `Space Cadet' even aired simultaneously on ABC (in prime time) and NBC, which carried kinescopes of old episodes on Saturday mornings. Based on a novel by Robert A. Heinlein, the series spawned books of its own, as well as a comic book and a Sunday-newspaper strip, and a 1952 ABC radio series. Science writer Willie Ley was an advisor.
