Premise: A flawless adaptation of John le Carre's spy novel about the search for a Soviet mole who has burrowed into the highest echelons of British Intelligence. Enter weary, mild-mannered, almost forlorn George Smiley, who, tossed out in the cold months earlier during an organizational shakeup, has been summoned back to investigate which of four ex-colleagues is the double agent. The British miniseries aired on PBS's `Great Performances.'
