= One Gay Ol' Time | Today's News: Our Take | 10/24/2008
Nathan Detroit Lane is showing the funny to prime-time TV this fall, guest-starring on 'Til Death. The Tony- and Emmy-winning actor will appear in the Fox sitcom's Nov. 19 episode, playing the gay brother of Brad Garrett's Eddie. Recently split from his longtime companion, Lane's character ultimately commiserates with his kin over how they each have come to rely on their better halves. Lane's previous guest-starring gig was as Jack Donaghy's brother, Eddie, in a March 2007 episode of 30 Rock.

VIDEO: J.B. Smoove Treats Us to a Death Jam | Today's News: Our Take | 9/10/2008
J.B. Smoove.... Where does one begin? The actor/comedian had us beside ourselves for, like, five minutes before tape rolled, riffing on how my producer's glen-plaid pants matched almost exactly his cap. I thought he'd never calm down! Eventually, J.B. opened up about how he scored his series-regular gig on Fox's 'Til Death, which returns Wednesday night. (Curb Your Enthusiasm's Larry David gets the mad props.)Smoove also reveals (or not) what the J.B. stands for (that's at the...

Cheers: Monk's Brad Behavior | Cheers & Jeers | 7/21/2008
Cheers to Brad Garrett for his image-changing guest spot on Monk. The 'Til Death star livened up the seventh-season premiere as "Honest Jake," a murderous handyman hired by Tony Shalhoub's obsessive-compulsive detective to fix up his new house. (The inside joke here, of course, is that Garrett was TV's original poster boy for OCD as cop Robert Barone on Everybody Loves Raymond.) The 6'8" Garrett effectively used his size for menace rather than mirth. Maybe he can intimidate Death's writers to...

Casting Scoops: Garrett on Monk, Rather Back to D$M and More! | Today's News: Our Take | 5/23/2008
Well, would you look at this: I took a bunch of random exclusive casting scoops and packaged them into one very special Ausiello Report blog post. Enjoy! Exercising the "Sarah Chalke Clause" in his 'Til Death contract, Brad Garrett has signed on to appear in Monk's July 18 season premiere. He'll play a handyman who helps Tony Shalhoub with his home renovations. Also on the Monk front, Robert Loggia (Big, Mancuso, FBI, assorted mobster roles) has been cast as an aging boxer in "Mr....

Fox Fall: Death Lives On, Back to You Won't Be Back | Today's News: Our Take | 5/10/2008
With the upfronts officially arriving next week, Fox is among the first to unfurl some of its plans. Per the Reporter, the network has renewed 'Til Death for a third cycle yet is not bringing back Back to You. Though the Grammer-Heaton sitcom drew good notices and decent numbers, it's reckoned that production costs ran too high (due to its marquee stars). Also, Fox is giving a series pickup to The Inn, which is described as "Upstairs/Downstairs at a hip New York hotel." The pilot was directed...

Cheers: A Smoove Move for 'Til Death | Cheers & Jeers | 3/26/2008
Cheers to 'Til Death for bringing in J.B. Smoove. The explosively funny actor, who earned huge laughs as Larry David's hurricane-survivor houseguest Leon on Curb Your Enthusiasm, scored again as Kenny on Fox's sitcom. The setup: Eddie (Brad Garrett) signs up for the Big Brother program and mistakenly gets matched up with 38-year-old Kenny. The episode gave Smoove a chance to show off his skill for physical shtick in a roller-skating sequence almost as sidesplitting as his recent robot-dance...

Joely Fisher Thankful for Surviving Car Crash | Today's News: Our Take | 11/8/2007
Joely Fisher knows what she's grateful for this Thanksgiving. After a car crash this past Monday, in which Fisher and her daughter True were hit head-on by a 91-year-old man who fell asleep at the wheel, she thanks her lucky stars that they got away unharmed. At the launch party for the book Altar Your Space at the Tara Home store in Los Angeles, the 'Til Death star showed TV Guide a minor burn on her chin from the bursting airbag. "I'm thankful that it wasn't worse than that," says Fisher. "We...

Chaos Theory: Fox Reshuffles the Poststrike Deck | Matt Roush | 11/8/2007
As if the implications of the writers strike werent already giving us migraines, along comes Fox to make our heads explode with its latest incomprehensible schedule announcement, covering the strike-impacted midseason from January to April (consider most everything you read from here on subject to change). The first piece of bad news was expected: The seventh season of 24 is being postponed indefinitely, until Fox can ensure the entire season can run intact and uninterrupted. Who...
