While Arthur and The Tick are both thrilled by an invitation to join the Legion of Superheroes, Captain Liberty notes the exclusive club's history of discriminating against women and minorities. Arriving at the Legion's stuffy headquarters where the Champion meets them, the awestruck pair soon find that Captain Liberty's accusations are true. But, while Arthur claims they will do whatever it takes to join the venerable institution. Captain Liberty is determined to break down the Legion's barriers to entry and enlists Batmanuel's lawyer, Steve Filbert, to sue -- unaware that he is actually the Champion! Following The Tick and Arthur's induction into the Legion, their attitude towards fighting crime changes. When Captain Liberty asks them to help investigate a crime, Arthur and The Tick refuse, claiming that simply being part of the Legion serves as a deterrent to crime. As a result, she forges ahead with her lawsuit, even as the Champion asks The Tick and Arthur to persuade her to back down. However, on their first assignment to a Legion foot patrol, the two newest members find that the exclusive club's members have eschewed any real crime fighting. While The Tick is determined to break the club's stodgy atmosphere, Arthur is reluctant to do anything that might put their membership in jeopardy. Hoping to convince Captain Liberty to drop her lawsuit, the Legion offers a huge financial settlement. While enjoying all the perks of being one of the Legion, Arthur is taken aback to discover just how much they hold his friends in disdain. So, when called to testify in the lawsuit, both The Tick and Arthur decide to help Captain Liberty's cause. Exposed as the Champion, lawyer Filbert finds the accusation impossible to deny and then tries to bury the case with an even larger settlement. But, as a result of the lawsuit, the Legion is forced to close their doors.
