The Nine: TV Guide News
I was disappointed to see ... | Matt Roush | 10/13/2006
Question: I was disappointed to see that The Nine wasn't watched by more people. My idea is to put The Nine after Grey's Anatomy. Wouldn't that work? Or is that too good to be true? Answer: A time period like the post-Grey's slot is a risky proposition. On one hand, you're fed a giant lead-in. On the other, it's yours to lose (as Six Degrees, a much lesser show than The Nine, is learning each week). Expectations are so high now on Thursdays for ABC, thanks to the strong showings of Ugly...

Ratings: The Nine Minus 3.5 Million Equals... | Today's News: Our Take | 10/12/2006
Trailing Dancing with the Stars' results show (18.15 million) in the 8 pm hour was Jericho (staying pat with 10.9 mil), followed by the debut of 30 Rock (8.27 mil, which about tied Fox's nightly baseball coverage). Come 8:30, the premiere of Twenty Good Years, sampled by 7 mil, lost 18 percent of Rock's audience. At 9, Lost (16.65 million) ruled the 18-49s but lost 1.85 mil total viewers versus its season opener. Criminal Minds was in second with 16.5 mil.CSI: NY won the 10 o'clock hour, of...

New Season Fallout: Changes Everywhere | Matt Roush | 10/6/2006
Didnt take long for the first shoes to drop this season, did it? Lets analyze the moves network by network.CBS We start here because CBS has wielded the cancellation ax first, dropping the Sopranos-lite caper Smith immediately from the otherwise successful Tuesday lineup. Strike one for this seasons new wave of serialized dramas. Crime-drama repeats (what else?) will occupy its slot starting this Tuesday.Im not terribly surprised. Though there was some buzz for the show...

Ratings: Lost Versus... the Others | Today's News: Our Take | 10/5/2006
Dancing with the Stars' Vivica-vanquishing results show was Wednesday's 8 pm winner, drawing 17.35 million viewers to Jericho's 10.75 mil (down about 600,000) and Bones' 7.85. At 9, Lost and "Big Ben" led the pack with a season-premiere audience of 18.5 million, a full mil more than tuned in for the Season 2 finale last May. Coming in a very respectable No. 2 was Criminal Minds (15 mil), followed by a repeat of House (8.95). Yes, a repeat more than doubled a fresh One Tree Hill's audience (3.2...

The Best TV Week EVER? | Matt Roush | 10/3/2006
OK, that headline may overstate the case a bit, but I do think this is the most important week yet of the new TV season, introducing several of the years very best new and returning series.Tonight (Tuesday) brings us the premiere of NBCs wonderful, soul-stirring new drama Friday Night Lights. Dont let the football backdrop throw you. This show, inspired by the book and movie about a small-town Texas high-school football team and the community that hangs on its every victory...

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly Betty: Part 2 | Today's News: Our Take | 9/15/2006
Here now, the rest of mine own fall forecast:WednesdayThe Nine, ABC: A fun little cast of familiar faces (24's Audrey! Bailey Salinger! The shadowy Prison Break dude!) and a far-out premise make this serialized drama more than worthy of a long hard look. But the crux of the show ? What exactly happened to the nine people involved in a seemingly life-altering 52-hour bank hostage situation? ? could prove frustrating if the mad-cryptic flashbacks are only parceled out mere seconds at a time....

Which are the top five new ... | Matt Roush | 8/21/2006
Question: Which are the top five new shows you would recommend this fall? From the previews I have read, I am most looking forward to The Nine, Heroes, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, Jericho and Ugly Betty. Six Degrees sounded intriguing to me when I read the premise, but critics have bashed it, so I'm uncertain. Although it does have J.J. Abrams involved, so I'm hoping. Answer: I'll give you a top six: my three favorite new dramas and my three favorite new comedies (the latter is almost by...

I know it's still summer, but ... | Matt Roush | 7/28/2006
Question: I know it's still summer, but have the networks announced tentative dates for their season premieres? Answer: As of now, the only network not to announce premiere dates is CBS, which will likely launch most of its new and returning shows the weeks of Sept. 17 and 24. Here's how the others shape up: The season kicks off early on Fox, with Prison Break and Vanished on Aug. 21; then the limited reality series Duets on Aug. 29; Justice and Bones on Aug. 30; House and Standoff on...

I heard that Kim Raver will ... | Matt Roush | 7/10/2006
Question: I heard that Kim Raver will be getting her own show this coming season and will not be on 24 any longer. Is this true? Answer: It's true that Kim Raver is in the cast of the excellent new ABC drama The Nine. How that affects her role as Audrey Raines on 24 remains to be seen. If, in fact, Jack Bauer leaves L.A. for the coming season, maybe geography can explain her absence (and maybe she can do some cut-ins by phone, since cell batteries never die on 24, unlike some characters) ...

I have some big TV issues for ... | Matt Roush | 7/7/2006
Question: I have some big TV issues for next fall, since I think every network has come up with good and interesting concepts for new shows. But I don't have the time or energy to keep track of every single program. For example, on Mondays I have Heroes against Vanished and Two and a Half Men, and later, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip is in the same time slot as CSI: Miami. Tuesdays are even more confusing: Boston Legal, Smith and Law & Order: SVU are all at the same time. Wednesdays are not...
