The X Factor: A Double Elimination and a Man With a Tinie Tempah Season 1, Episode 20

Apparently we're sticking to the Michael Jackson theme for tonight's double elimination, so we usher in the episode with an underwhelming (except for Melanie) group performance of "Man in the Mirror." We review last night's episode, all the judges pay tribute to the late pop star, and millions of viewers simultaneously think, "Can we just get to the damn elimination already?"

Here's a refresher on how tonight will work: based on America's votes, four acts will go straight through to the next round, the lowest vote-getter will be automatically eliminated, and the second and third lowest scoring performers will "sing for their lives," where the judges will ultimately decide their fate.

A shock to everyone (or maybe just me), Chris Rene is the first contestant pushed through to the next round. Following him are Melanie and Rachel Crowe (could my predictions have been more wrong?).

We're interrupted by a man named Tinie Tempah, who the majority of US is unfamiliar with. As it turns out, he's the UK's best-selling rap artist, but NEWS FLASH! Americans are the most ethnocentric people ever, so obviously they don't care about famous British singers not named Adele.

Josh Krajcik secures the fourth safe spot of the evening, leaving Drew, Marcus, and Astro vulnerable. But then, little Brooklyn-based Astro is sent home. The Astro-nauts have failed him!

Marcus and Drew will now go head-to-head in a Simon vs. LA showdown. Wouldn't it be fun if they battled like Celebrity Deathmatch?

Drew takes the stage first, and performs an acoustic(ish) version of "Listen to Your Heart." She tries to break out with a few unexpected high notes, but will it be unique enough for the judges to save her?

Marcus performs "Neither One of Us," and while he delivers his typical Marcus swag, there are quite a few pitch problems during the performance.

LA sends home Drew; Simon eliminates Marcus. Nicole gets rid of Drew (she's always had a soft spot for Marcus), and Paula — who decides to be decisive for the first time this season — also elects to send Drew packing. Many, many tears ensue. And when I say tears...I mean sobbing that goes on for the last five minutes of the episode. But whatever, she's 14 and hormonal.

So were you as shocked as I was about this elimination? Did the right two get eliminated? Weigh in below!
