X Factor Episode Recap: The Top 9 Are Revealed Season 1, Episode 16

Even though only two or three acts actually stuck to the rock genre last night, tonight's episode of The X Factor opens with a rousing performance of "We Will Rock You." Aw, LeRoy Bell forgets his cue! Is it real or is this Fox's slick way of trying to dismiss those lip-synching rumors once and for all? Hmmm....

Simon says last night was amazing and that — outside of his own contestants — he thinks Josh and Astro were the best.

Now time to get down to business and find out who is going home (and whether or not Paula gets to start coasting next week!) Steve says the first two safe acts are ... LeRoy Bell Lakoda Rayne! Apparently, America didn't watch last night's show? LeRoy Bell is as shocked as I am, with his mouth dropping down to the group. Paula is, obviously, elated that she still has something to do next week and runs up to the stage to smother Lakoda Rayne.

At this point, it's got to be Stacy Francis going home for that atrocious Celine Dion cover, right?

Steve announces the rest of the safe acts and ... Stacey Francis and Astro are in the bottom two. Nicole says her heart goes out to Stacy and that she's proud of her. Astro is more upbeat — telling the audience not to be sad because hip-hop came this far. Awww!

Both contestants must now sing to save themselves and lucky for Astro, Stacey picks the w-r-o-n-g song in "Amazing Grace." She starts out the performance on a hard note and its all downhill from there. Towards the end, she tries to show off her range, but hits a few distinct wrong notes. Oh dear, we cannot have the first winner of The X Factor be tone deaf. No no no. As Steve says, "Off you go!" Yikes!

Astro comes on stage and says he's hesitant to perform because he feels like his performances up until now speak for themselves. But then he asks his mentor for advice and L.A. Reid says he should perform because he's already come so far. Astro performs an energetic rendition of "Can't Say Goodbye" (with a personalized shout-out to his mentor.) Steve says he's glad Astro performed. I think it's obvious who Steve wants to stay — will the judges agree?

Now it's time for the judges to vote. L.A. Reid thinks Astro's performance was lackluster and says he's disappointed in his quitter-like attitude (insert L.A.'s death glare at Astro here). However, he says he has to stay with his act and picks Stacy to home. Nicole picks Astro to go home. Paula also picks Stacy to home. Simon says he doesn't like Astro's attitude either, and tells Astro to think of his mum at home and stop being disrespectful. "I don't want to perform for people who don't want me here," Astro says in response. He starts tearing up, but the damage may already be done.

Simon goes with the person who has the best chance of winning and sends Stacy packing.

"I had an amazing journey. I wasn't always happy with my song choices. I don't believe I did great last night," Stacy says, emphasizing that she has to take responsibility even though it sounds like she's trying to throw Nicole under the bus as a bad mentor.

So do you think the judges were right to send Stacy home? Will you still vote for Astro after his attitude problem tonight? Can he still win after talking to Simon like that in front of millions of people? Sound off in the comments below!
