The Voice Episode Recap: Christina Gets Emotional and Blake Makes a Surprising Save Season 2, Episode 15

Christina gets defensive after Carson starts off the night by recalling her controversial decision to send Jesse Campbell home. Adam Levine — shock! — defends her and she seems to have no regrets about what has been the most controversial exit this season. Let's fast-forward through the random performance and the Justin Bieber music video sneak preview (really, we can't see the whole thing? Someone told the Biebs that MTV hasn't played a music video since 2006, yes?) OK, seriously, let's do this:

Team Christina:
In another shocking twist, Chris Mann is saved by America, forcing Ashley De La Rosa and Lindsey Pavao to perform one more time.

"You and I," Ashley De La Rosa
This is the moment when singing competition show fatigue sets in because Elise Testone just killed this Lady Gaga jam on American Idol last week so it feels stale now. Ashley keeps jumping around the stage so much that it's clear she should have picked a faster song. Her pitch is kinda 'eh and although the performance is good enough, after her surprisingly strong arrangement of "Foolish Games," she needed to keep the momentum going and she failed to do that. Adam says this wasn't Ashley's best performance, but Blake says he's become a big fan of Ashley's.

"Please Don't Go," Lindsey Pavao
It took me a good minute to figure out what song this was and I've heard it on the radio a million times. Is that good for Lindsey for being original? Or will that hurt her straying so far? If this was America's vote, I would say Lindsey was toast, but this one is all up to Christina and judging from Lindsey's tears, and Christina's subsequent waterworks, at the end of the performance, I would say she has this in the bag. Cee Lo says Lindsey did a great job, and Blake is "drawn in" by Lindsey's mysterious ways.

Decision time: Christina starts tearing up, and after another looong preamble, she says she has to go with her heart and picks Lindsey Pavao, sending Ashley De La Rosa home. But in a genuine "aw shucks" moment, Christina gets on stage wraps her arm around Ashley and kisses her on the cheek.

Team Blake:
Jermaine Paul is saved by America, which leaves Erin Willett and RaeLynn to sing for their lives.

Erin Willett, "Proud Mary"
Erin hits the same notes over and over (and over and over), but if Blake has liked what she's been putting out so far, this performance isn't going to change a darn thing. Except for the very end of her song when her final "yeaaa-ah" is all over the place and messy. Christina says Erin put in an amazing effort.

RaeLynn, "If I Die Young"
After performing big upbeat songs on both live performance shows, RaeLynn picked the right strategy to sway Blake in her favor. A ballad, which reminds him that she's diverse, and a country ballad, to remind him she's a Nashville princess-in-the-making and because it's his sweet spot. Ugh, too bad the end of this song is a mess too. Adam praises her for playing the song and didn't let the song play her, but wishes it was something different.

Decision time: Blake stammers and stammers and after multiple pleads from Carson for a name, Blake saves Erin Willett and sends home RaeLynn. I really thought RaeLynn had the advantage because of her country ties, but I guess she was too young?

So what did you think of tonight's results? Do you think America got it right? Do you think the coaches got it right? Did one of your favorites go home? Sound off below!

Premise: Singers square off for a coveted recording contract in this reality talent contest from the producers of "Big Brother" and "Survivor." Four vocal coaches mentor the contestants in three distinct competition phases: the blind auditions (during which the coaches can't see a contestant and thereby judge them solely on their vocal talent); the battle phase (in which the contestants are advised and developed); and, lastly, the live-performance phase.
