Memorable bits included `Letters to the Editor' and `Man on the Street,' and the protean Allen had one of TV's all-time supporting companies with Don Knotts, Tom Poston, Louis Nye, Gabe Dell, Bill Dana and Pat Harrington Jr. Allen revived many of the same elements for two subsequent variety series, both called `The Steve Allen Comedy Hour.'
