In this three-part homage to the holiday 1) Reverend Lovejoy cannot deliver a sermon, so Homer takes over and relates his version of the birth of Christ, and incidentally, the creation of the Christmas tree 2) We learn that Grampa and Mr. Burns were marooned on an island in the Pacific during World War II, where Grampa saves Santa Claus and 3) in a musical segment based on "The Nutcracker Suite" we see Springfielders going about their annual Christmas rituals, including Moe attempting to kill himself, and Homer desperately trying to find a last-minute gift for Marge.

On Father's Day, Homer responds much more enthusiastiacally to a new tool than he does to Lisa's heartfelt present. Lisa becomes very angry with her father, and so to win back her respect, he becomes the Safety Salamander, a well-loved figure at Springfield Elementary. As the Safety Salamander, Homer becomes so popular, he becomes the leading candidate to replace Mayor Quimby in a recall election. But when the Salamander suit shrinks and falls off during a debate, the voters of Springfield realize they do not like their hero nearly as much out of costume.

In "B.I.--Bartificial Intelligence", the Simpsons think Bart is lost to them and replace him with an sweet, well-behaved android--and when the real Bart comes back, they prefer the robot. In "Survival of the Fattest" Mr. Burns hunts the deadliest, laziest game of all--the citizens of Springfield. And in "I've Grown a Costume on Your Face", a disgruntled witch causes the Springfield residents' Halloween costumes become all too real. All this, plus a halloween message from basketball great Dennis Rodman!
