If I were a writer for The Office, I'd be terrified to be in charge of writing the episode after the wedding. I think we're all in agreement; last week's wedding episode was an instant television classic — something that will, quite literally, last the test of TV time.
So, needless to say, when reading this week's episode description, I was less than excited. It just seemed so..."Eh!" But thirty seconds in, and with Meredith talking about "upper deckers," I knew it was going to be a good time.
Dwight and Andy can pretty much always make something out of nothing. Am I the only one that thinks this mobster storyline is a bit of a stretch? Either way, it's funny. I mean, these two always come up with something so far-fetched and then make it almost believable — and Michael is 100% there with them.
But as an Italian-American with many uncles that look like this sales guy, I can get behind their misconception. I mean, he has "the look." And after sitting through that restaurant conversation, seeing his aggression and pointed comments, I understand. Many Christmases have come and gone with me thinking a loved one has taken out a hit on me.
Other episode highlights for me included:
- Kevin taking over Jim's office
- Oscar calling Jim and Pam on their honeymoon (This happens to me ALL the time when I'm on vacation from work!)
- Dwight with the "roach motel" at restaurant
- Kevin "cancelling" Jim's credit cards
- Michael telling his office how he "talked down" his "mafia guy"
But my absolute favorite was Kevin discreetly trying to tell Oscar why he would love jail. It seems that, lately, they've drop one of these comments into each episode, but it's funny each time. Oscar plays his part wonderfully; it just works!
If you're like me, you'd probably agree that this episode came and went with a few laughs, but nothing more. Maybe it's my missing Jim and Pam; maybe it's having had this follow up last week's stellar wedding. Either way, a fun 30 minutes was had, and I really look forward to having Pam and Jim back in the office.
