Although some viewers may be sad to see HBO's The Newsroom go with an abbreviated third and final season, at least one cast member is fine with it.
Not everyone knows Aaron Sorkin's name, but they've almost certainly heard his trademark rich and frenetic dialogue. The creator and writer of The West Wing, Sports Night, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, and The Newsroom is busy wrapping up the final season of the latter, and once that's done, his television career may fade to black.
Given the anticipatory hype that preceded the 2012 debut of HBO's The Newsroom, it would have been hard to predict that the Aaron Sorkindrama would end the way it is — with a truncated third and final season that begins Sunday.
After two up-and-down years — the first season was met with decidedly harsh reviews, while the second was received more warmly despite some persisting flaws —and a very tidy Season 2 finale, it seemed Sorkin might be ready to just move on to something else. Unfortunately, it doesn't sound like that reveal is coming any time soon. "You always think it can't go on any longer, but they twist it in a way you didn't even think of," star Brian Letscher, who plays Tom, teases of the (inevitable?) reveal. "Rowan is a master manipulator .... and the ripple effects of Tom [saying Jake ordered him to kill Jerry] affect a lot of people in ways he never imagined."

The season premiere is set around the events of the Boston Marathon bombing and, owing to ACN's screw-up with the Operation Genoa story last season, everyone is appropriately gun shy about reporting the "facts" of the story too quickly...
