Ryan Murphy sure knows how to make an entrance. The showrunner behind Glee, American Horror Story and NBC's upcoming comedy The New Normal has only been on Twitter for a day, but he seems to be taking to the 140-character format very quickly.
In his first day on the social networking site, the Emmy winner posted revealing behind-the-scenes pictures from two of his shows — one of Lea Michele with guest star Kate Hudson and the other of new American Horror Story cast member Adam Levine posing with an image known only as "bloody face." Here are six more spoilers Murphy shared with Gleeks Tuesday...
It would be nice to hope, as NBC does, that the ratings magnet of the Summer Olympics, opening Friday, will somehow magically transform the network's sagging fortunes with its "incredible promotional platform" (as NBC Chairman Bob Greenblatt put it). To that end, NBC will sneak-peek two of its new comedies with commercial-free premieres on pivotal nights of the games, and tease a high-profile new drama on another. Much of NBC's fall lineup will launch ahead of the official premiere week in late September, in hopes of capitalizing on the momentum the Olympics provides.
The New Normal
None of the TV shows from the 2012-2013 freshman class have debuted yet, but NBC's new family comedy The New Normal already has an important distinction under its belt: It's the first new show to be boycotted.
"I was very excited than I was mentioned by first and last name in the boycott," star Andrew Rannells told reporters at NBC's Television Critics Association fall TV previews Tuesday. "It's my first boycott!"
This is not the first boycott, however, for co-creator and executive producer Ryan Murphy (Glee, Nip/Tuck, Popular), who acknowledged that he was not....
Below you can find all the scoop on NBC's new and returning shows from the Television Critics Association fall TV previews.
NBC Chairman Robert Greenblatt is pleased with the network's third-place finish for the 2011-2012 season and is looking forward to the Olympics and fall. "We had a great spring. I couldn't be happier with what happened," he told reporters assembled for the the Television Critics Association's fall previews Tuesday.
Part of that optimism will extend to how the network will utilize the Summer Olympics as a springboard to promote full episodes of its fall shows, revamping The Voice, Community and Smash and re-evaluating its overall comedy strategy. Let's break it down:
The New Normal
So it begins.
One Million Moms, the organization that attacked JC Penny for hiring openly gay Ellen DeGeneres as a spokesperson, is turning its attention to NBC's new series The New Normal. From Ryan Murphy, the series follows a gay couple — Book of Mormon's Andrew Rannells and The Hangover's Justin Bartha — who try to start a family with the help of a surrogate (Georgia King).
On their website, One Million Moms accused NBC of...
Growing up is hard to do — even for the kids of Glee.
After graduating from McKinley High last spring, Rachel, Kurt and the rest of the seniors are going to have a tough time in the "real world" when the show returns this fall (Sept. 13 at 9/8c).
"That's what this season is about, to me — going from this very cozy, family environment where it's all about following your dreams and then all of a sudden that's done and you're expected to go out into the real world and try to make it work and try to pay rent," executive producer Ian Brennan told reporters at Comic-Con Saturday. "What does it mean when you tell kids to follow your dreams no matter how hard it is but then it's really hard....
