The Leslie Uggams Show

1969, TV Show

CBS replaced the controversial Smothers Brothers show with this tamer variety hour hosted by the singer. Uggams' guests ranged from the Temptations and Stevie Wonder to Dick Van Dyke, Mike Connors (the star of CBS's `Mannix') and the cast of `Hogan's Heroes.' The show also included a running sketch segment about an urban black family (Uggams played the mother), but viewers didn't respond to the series and it was replaced (after 10 episodes) with `The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour.'
