Glee's Holiday Throwback: Let's Go Back to Christmas in the '60s!

Oh, Marti Noxon, you had fun writing this one didn't you. The Buffy vet, who serves as a consulting producer on Glee this season, made her episodic writing debut with "Extraordinary Merry Christmas," a near-plotless throwback to The Judy Garland Show's boozy, high-as-a-kite holiday special (and old-timey variety specials in general). And why not? Last season, they turned Sue into the Grinch (literally) and gave Artie fake legs (literally). Why not deliver a holly-jolly Christmas by serving up some Yuletide chestnuts and the best of '60s TV (accents! corny jokes! canned laughter!)?

But in case you missed the story stuff, or forgot it, or blocked it, here's what you need to know: Mr. Schue picks Artie to direct a throwback Christmas special for Lima's cable-access station, which interferes with the glee club's promise to help Sue serve at a homeless shelter (this year, she's the anti-Grinch), but they show up anyway to sing...  Read Full Article

Glee’s Matthew Morrison: Chewbacca Can’t Write on a Chalkboard to Save His Life

How does Chewbacca make his way into a Glee Christmas? It looks like the Wookiee comes bearing some directorial advice for Artie.

In tonight's episode (8/7c, Fox), Artie (Kevin McHale) will be tasked with directing New Directions' Christmas special, and will get some help from a galaxy far, far away.

Glee's Holiday Special: Who's kissing under the mistletoe?

"A Wookiee comes to him in the middle of the night and speaks to him," series star Matthew Morrison tells TVGuide.com. Morrison got to do double-duty for the special, acting in and directing the episode, "Extraordinary Merry Christmas," which he describes as read more

So the bomb has dropped on ...

Question: So the bomb has dropped on what's been, personally, expected for months — that the Palladino wife-and-husband team, Amy and Daniel, are leaving Gilmore Girls. Part of me is sad. She created this brilliant show and the pair have probably written over half the episodes. But part of me is hopeful that someone on the Gilmore writing/producing team will hopefully be able to turn the show around, after this lackluster season, for its supposed last hurrah! What do you think of this whole event? Answer: My gut reaction is sadness, that it's a shame that Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino won't see this show, which is such a singular vision and which is so entwined with their voices, through to its natural conclusion. (Which I have to think will be a year from now. The fact that they appear to have been holding out for a two-year extension can only be characterized as hubris.) Gilmore Girls has been such an oddball show this season. I love it — the tone, the language, the ... read more

Premise: Judy Garland's show, like the star herself, had a troubled history, and it suffered format changes and backstage turmoil, none of which kept it from copping several Emmy nominations. Notable changes involved a switch in executive producers from George Schlatter to Norman Jewison. Garland, though, was in great voice, and there were wonderful guest shots by her daughter Liza Minnelli, Mickey Rooney, Barbra Streisand, Ethel Merman, Danny Kaye and Ray Bolger (the scarecrow from `The Wizard of Oz').
