The Hills Episode Recap: "Hi Lauren, It's Spencer..." Season 5, Episode 9

It's official: Heidi and Spencer are getting married. But in Heidi's eyes, the day won't be complete without her former BFF, Lauren, present. At Heidi's urging, Stephanie tries to convince Lauren to go, but she's unsuccessful. Even after Audrina decides she'll attend and Lo says it's a possibility she will as well, it's a no-go for LC.

Spencer is at the driving range and admits to his buddy Charlie that he's the happiest he's ever been. Spencer also mentions that Heidi wants him to make peace with Lauren but he doesn't know how the day would be special with his enemy in attendance. Charlie suggests burying the hatchet, but Spencer refuses to apologize.

At Monique Lhuillier, Heidi tries on wedding dresses for Stephanie and Holly. When Heidi asks Stephanie if she gave Lauren the invite, she regretfully informs Heidi that she doesn't think Lauren will be going. "That's OK, as long as I have you guys," Heidi responds, but she's clearly sad. Later that day, she asks Spencer to put his ego aside and be the bigger person by calling Lauren. Heidi demands, "You better do this for me."

Meanwhile, Audrina, Lo and Stephanie are hanging at the Nylon Young Hollywood Party when Steph learns that her former boss is the one throwing it. Despite the fact that Lo says there are more than 1,000 people there, Kelly comes right up to Stephanie for some good 'ole Kelly Cutron-frontation. When Stephanie explains that she didn't realize it was Kelly's party, Kelly tells her, "It's a Nylon party — they're my client." They get into a bit of a tiff and Stephanie says it was hard to learn at a job where the boss was never there. Kelly responds, "You're going to blame me for your ineptitude?" and then walks away.

The party isn't going so well for Audrina either as Brody and his girlfriend Jayde show up. Jayde is talking smack about Audrina and Brody says she has every right to be upset about the scandal that went down a few weeks prior (when Brody and Audrina shared a bed on vacation). Brody, who all of a sudden has become a jerk, says he doesn't give an expletive about being friends with Audrina and would rather make things good with his girlfriend.

Over at People's Revolution, Heidi stops by to give Lauren her wedding invitation but Lauren still doesn't fully get why she wants her there. She explains to Heidi that it's not about the mistake Spencer made, but about the person he is. (So, so deep.) She then likens it to her prior relationship with Jason, where she felt she would die without him and that everything would be perfect if they could just go to an island. "But life isn't an island. You have to have other people in your life," she tells Heidi.

Lauren also gets into how Spencer has caused the person she loved to disappear. The two get a bit emotional but eventually hug it out. As Heidi leaves she tells Lauren, "I'm finally getting the wedding of my dreams. I'll see you around."

Back at the Speidi home, Spencer finally decides to call Lauren. "It's your former best friend, Spencer Pratt. Don't hang up." He surprisingly apologizes for spreading the Lauren sex-tape rumors and for hurting everyone he did. He also tells her that he doesn't expect her to forgive him but that Heidi would love more than anything for her to be present at their wedding. "This girl still has a place in her heart for you, and I'm sure somewhere in your heart without Spencer you have a place too," he tells her. I'm actually shocked by all that he says to Lauren, concluding with his appreciation for her taking the time to hear him out.

Do you think Spencer is turning over a new leaf?
