Episode Recap: "If She Never Met Spencer..." Season 4, Episode 9

With each episode of The Hills this season, we seem one step closer to a reunion between Heidi and Lauren and one step closer to Heidi realizing she needs Spencer out of her life. This week Holly, perhaps the new Stephanie, made her attempts at bringing together a reconciliation. But what’s holding Lauren back and what will it take for Heidi to fully realize that her boyfriend sucks at life?

After last week’s Doug incident, Lauren hasn’t seen much of Stephanie lately. To fill that Speidi sibling void, she decides to meet Holly for a drink. When Lo questions her, Lauren assures her that Heidi have given her sis the okay. But is Holly really just trying to unite the two former friends? Regardless, drinks are harmless Lo tells her.

Audrina, meanwhile, has a date with a boy named Collin who btw used to work at Saddle Ranch, home to wannabe actors/reality stars looking to extend their fifteen minutes of fame. They mostly talk about her Sony job and passion for music. Then they get onto the subject of what kind of drunk they are and while he’s a happy drunk, Audrina takes this opportunity to bring up Justin and how he’s a cocky drunk. Even though she seems a bit hung up on JB, Collin still asks her out for the next night.

Back at Casa de Speidi, Heidi asks Holly if she’s seen Lauren at all. Holly says yes and that Lauren has never been happier. Like her sis, Heidi wants to be catching up with L too and gets a bit emotional. Holly suggests sending the letter she had previously thought of writing.
“She knows your heart,” says Holly.
“Maybe she forgot,” Heidi responds.
“Well maybe she needs to be reminded,” Holly poignantly says.

Lauren receives the letter and lets Whitney read it aloud. The gist of it is that Heidi is not only sorry, but taking responsibility for what happened. Whitney comments that she must have no-one and feel really alone. Interestingly, Lauren points out that Heidi still will not blame Spencer but instead, puts it on herself. That’s loyalty and perhaps stupidity.

Audrina meets Collin after being up all night talking to Justin. I’m sure that’s what her date wants to hear. Collin is wondering what’s going on and Audrina is honest by letting him know that although her and JB are not bf/gf, she’s known him for so long and the situation is holding her back. That night Audrina and Justin go out and he romantically says, “What’s up, dude?” She confesses that she went on a date. He tells her that she’s found a winner and that “nice gets you far…but he went so far he’s not here.” Way to send a jab her way. I honestly have no idea what Justin said next until he ended the convo by calling her a “heartbreaker.”

Once again being the mediator, Holly goes over the Laurens and asks if she got a letter from Heidi. Lauren says it’s sad but she forgave a long time ago. She also asks if Heidi has any good friends as if she’s genuinely concerned and Holly responded, “She has me.” Lauren explains to Holly that it’s not about her; it’s about the person she’s always with and that’s the only thing in the way. Later on, Audrina and Lauren chat about their respective situations. For A, JB is always going to be in the picture until she finds a guy that makes her forget about him. Hmm, don’t we all know how that goes? And I have to mention that based on this convo, I cannot believe the current reports that LC and JB hooked up behind Audrina’s back, can you? For Lauren, Holly reminds her of the old Heidi, but feels it’s better to look back and be glad that they were great friends, had good times and not be angry. Then they pose the question of the night. “Where would we all be if Heidi never met Spencer?” We’re all wondering the same thing!

At the end of the episode, Holly and Heidi talk about Lauren. Heidi keeps her stance by saying she’s not the one making them not be friends and that she’d be okay to do whatever. Maybe it’s one step closer. Just as Holly is about to break the “Spencer is the reason" news, he waltzes in and asks why they’re discussing her. Heidi of course downplays the letter and Spencer reacts by adding, “What, Holly moves in and you start keeping secrets?” Time for the throw down.
“It’s not her fault she can’t talk to you,” exclaims Holly.
“Who’s talking to you?” Spencer lashes out.
“I’m her family.” Holly then lays it out clearly for Heidi by telling her that he’s the reason she and Lauren aren’t friends again and it won’t happen while Spencer is in the picture. Not surprisingly, Spencer is happy about this and simply tells her to let go.

Can Heidi have anymore reasons to get rid of Spencer? Will she and Lauren ever make amends? Will Justin Bobby ever stop referring to Audrina as dude?
