The Hills Episode Recap: "Back to New York" Season 4, Episode 14

It's back to the Big Apple for Whitney and Lauren and you know these girls can't visit a city without bringing new boys into the mix. Unfortunately for Whitney, she's already got one waiting in the wings that she isn't too into.

It's Men's New York fashion week and People's Revolution have six shows to style. Kelly Cutrone summons her little workers and next thing we know, the girls are in New York. Although Kelly comes off pretty rigid, sometimes she's pretty funny. She makes sure to mention to Whit that her boy Alex is going to be in the show, and then says, "Your best friend is probably going to see him in his underwear." Later at the Buckler fitting the girls meet a cute Texan named Adam. He seemed pretty vacant to me with all of his non-answers to Whitney's questions, but I guess his good looks still managed to strike their fancy. After Adam is done, Alex shows up. He and Whitney had hit it off the last time she was in the city but it seems like the spark is gone. And if seeing him in those red briefs didn't do it for her, I'm not sure what will.

Back in Los Angeles, Heidi is trying to figure out what to do. So many things about this scene I can rip on but I'll just say this. Why does she look like she's headed to a club when clearly it's early morning? And how can she put up with Spencer who is asking her why she's in such a bad mood when clearly she's bummed out about losing her fake dream job?

The Buckler show goes off without a hitch and the girls are headed out to meet up with Adam. His roommate Jay is performing on stage with his band, and for Whitney it's love at first sight. Alex decides to make an appearance as well, but since he's brought a bunch of friends decides to hang back with them. Whitney is torn, should she go hang out with Alex or continue to swoon over the rocker? She gives Alex a lame excuse that she doesn't want to leave her friend Lauren (who hasn't used that one?) and sits back down at the table.

Spencer and Heidi go out to Hollywood hot-spot Kress. Of course being a launch party, Brent is there. Like we didn't see that one coming. Despite Heidi's urging of Spencer to not go up to Brent, he does. He tells him how awful he feels for causing Heidi to lose her job. "I don't understand why every time you come around there's problems," Brent says. He continued to put Spencer in his place by telling him that he should be having this conversation with Heidi and that it's making him uncomfortable. He also tells Spencer that he doesn't even want him around his stuff (meaning parties, etc). Brent is clearly not a fan of his and I think for the first time we got to actually see someone say something they mean. Heidi decides to take a stab at fixing things because after all, "you can't get fired twice." She tells him that she's so sorry Spencer came up to him to which he responds, "Dude your boyfriend's a nightmare." Love it. He then tries to give her some advice, none of which she hears, that you can't let people influence your life and you can't have people like that around. Heidi says that the bottom line is she takes responsibility and if there's ever any hope of working with them again, she'd love it. Brent says he has to talk to Sam about it but it doesn't seem too promising.

Back at Il Bastardo, Whitney buys Jay a shot in order to have a reason to start talking to him. It works and he invites her out after. Alex, on the other hand, is "really losing steam with this whole thing." Whitney doesn't want to see too available but Lauren, the queen of out of town flings, tells her to go for it and that they're only there for a night. In the middle of Whitney and Jay's flirt session and heart-to-heart about past relationships, Alex interrupts to ask Whitney if they can talk for a few minutes. But instead she just bails with Jay. "Your girl just beat you with that Australian kid," said Alex's friend. Well said.

Did you like the episode? Anyone else actually enjoying this season like I am?
