Zeljko Ivanek, Téa Leoni

Madam Secretary got off to a decent start Sunday.

Weekend TV: Madam Secretary Joins The Good Wife

Madam Secretary

Many observers will try to compare Elizabeth McCord, the fictional Madam Secretary (of State) winningly played by Téa Leoni, to Hillary Clinton — given the high-profile government cabinet position, and the hair color, and a Benghazi-like crisis by the second episode. But the real comparison to be made is with the show's Sunday night companion piece on CBS: The Good Wife, and that's where this well-meaning and generally entertaining Madam comes up a bit short.

Good Wife Bosses Won't Keep Killing People, Tease Alicia's Big Decision in Season 6

Julianna Margulies

Fans of The Good Wife can officially breathe easy. Ever since the acclaimed CBS drama killed off its male lead, Will Gardner (Josh Charles), six months ago in a shocking twist absolutely no one saw coming, the show's loyal following — aka #TheGoodWifeSupportGroup — have had to sleep with one eye open, fearful that in this post-Will Gardner world, nothing and no one is safe.

What will Emma and Hook's dating life be like on Once Upon a Time? — Val
The good news: The producers are going to let them go out somewhere other than Granny's Diner. The bad news: "It's going to be tricky for the two of them," executive producer Adam Horowitz says. "Just because we saw their feelings reach a new level at the end of last season doesn't mean that that's the end of the story." And Emma may be the problem. "Emma is obviously a person who has a tough time trusting people and letting her guard down," executive producer Edward Kitsis says. "Sometimes you may feel something for somebody but your feelings hold you back."

Question: I'm a fan and read your column every week. I've watched the pilots for Forever and Red Band Society, and have added them to my list of shows I'll be watching. I hope they do well. I was wondering if you have seen them, and if so, what did you think? I found Red Band Society to be a feel-good show. I can't help but wonder, though, if it shouldn't be on a younger TV station like MTV, and the fact that it isn't makes me worry about its chances, as it is geared toward a younger audience. Forever is very Sherlock Holmes, which is right up my alley, and I love it whenever Ioan Gruffudd is on my TV screen. Do you think making the pilots available early hurts a TV show? What are your thoughts? - Carmelita

Is Diane actually going to join Florrick/Agos on The Good Wife? — Brenda
Alicia certainly wants her to, but she and Cary may not see eye-to-eye on that topic. Even so, things are set in motion for Diane's shift — she already has her story lined up for her clients and David Lee and Canning — until an unforeseen crisis not only puts that on the back burner, but also pits several characters against each other.
