Forbidden Planet, Honey West Star Anne Francis Dies at 80

Anne Francis

Anne Francis, the actress best known for her roles in the 1956 science fiction film Forbidden Planet and the 1960s TV show Honey West, has died. She was 80.

Francis died Sunday at a Santa Barbara nursing home of complications of pancreatic cancer, her daughter, Jane Uemura, told the Los Angeles Times.

Betty White has been named The Associated Press' Entertainer of the Year.

The 88-year-old actress — who managed to boost the ratings of Saturday Night Live and set a TV Land record for her show Hot in Cleveland — beat out such competitors as cast of Glee, Conan O'Brien and James Cameron.

Premise: Four mature single women share a house in Miami in a long-running ensemble sitcom that's enjoyed a resurgent popularity among younger viewers since repeats began airing on Lifetime. A two-time Emmy winner for Outstanding Comedy Series, the smart Susan Harris-created sitcom dealt wittily (and often movingly) with aspects of friendship and aging, and earned awards for all four of its principal actresses.
